Steps to make foldable. Fold your piece of paper hotdog/burrito style. Cut 2 slits equal space apart. So you have 3 tabs total. On first tab of foldable write CLAIM. 2 nd Tab write EVIDENCE 3 rd Tab write REASONING Under each tab we will write the info/definitions. CLAIM. EVIDENCE.

Claim/Evidence/ReasoningFoldable • What do you think Claim means when you are reading an article and it asks you what is this articles claim? • Claim: is a statement that expresses the answer or conclusion to a question or problem. Claim should be based on the information or data in an article or experiment. • Example: Most matter comes from air to make a tree.

  4. EVIDENCE • Evidence: is scientific data that supports the claim. This data can come from observations, measurements, results from controlled experiment. Data must be accurate, relevant, and reliable. Must have sufficient/enough evidence to support claim. NO OPINIONS!!!!! • Example: an experiment conducted with a lit candle and plant. The plant kept the candle lit.

  5. REASONING • Reasoning: provides a justification that links the evidence to the claim. Explains why evidence supports the claim, it provides a logical connection between the evidence and the claim. Reasoning should be based on Scientific Principles/Standards/Concepts. • Example: Photosynthesis, water, and sunlight in oxygen released and sugar used by plant.
