Committee Overview • Education—Developing education materials about appropriate prescribing and use of controlled substances for medical providers and the public • Enforcement—Targeting criminal prescribing and diversion • INSPECT—Ensuring sustainability and access to Indiana’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Program • Take Back—Increasing availability of disposal sites for unused controlled substances • Treatment & Recovery—Improving access to treatment for those suffering from addiction

Accomplishments to Date • Helped pass key legislation that helps in the fight against Rx drug abuse • Secured funding for the state prescription drug monitoring program, INSPECT • Developed a best prescribing practices toolkit for physicians • Researched appropriate Rx drug disposal options • Educated law enforcement and health care providers at the Third Annual Rx Drug Abuse Symposium • Researched addiction treatment options and began tackling the issue of neonatal abstinence syndrome

  7. 4th Annual Prescription Drug Abuse Symposium November 1, 2013 Westin, Downtown Indianapolis Audience: State lawmakers, law enforcement, pharmacists, healthcare providers, officials from state and local agencies, and education providers.
