  3. The whiteeagle

  4. The first duke of Poland, Lech, was a fearless warrior and a wise ruler. He loved falconry and wanted to train an eagle. One day, he went to Hawking with his court. He then went alone on a hill, where he saw a white eagle sitting on its young in its nest and decided to take one of them. The Duke tried to reach for it but the eagle pecked him with a quick motion. The Duke was ashamed to see his blood dripping on the bird and left the hill.

  5. Lech sit and thought about the eagle's extraordinary courage in defending its nest. He decided to make it the symbol of Poland. And so, today, a white eagle on a red shield is Poland's coat of arms.

  6. Bull ring’slegend

  7. The city of Birmingham threatened to invade a little village, which was weakened and starved because of the winter The village fought back riding bulls. The battle was fierce and in the end, the little village surrendered. Peace was back and the place of the battle was called "Plaza de Toros". This is the legend of the Bull ring.

  8. Sirin and Ferhat

  9. A famous craftsman, Ferhat, was summoned to build a small castle for the queen's sister, Sirin. When the two youth saw eachother, they fell in love. The queen was against the marriage and decided that Ferhat was to dig a canal in the middle of the Elma to bring water to the city in order to marry Sirin. Ferhat started digging, but a witch, sent by the queen, told him her loved one was dead. Ferhat hit himself on the head with the shovel and died where he was digging.

  10. Sirin found out about this and went on the mountain, where she saw the body of her loved one and jumped down, killing herself. The water arrived in the city and the people buried the two lovers side by side. During every season, two roses grow on their graves, but a black bush grows between the two youth and the two roses.

  11. Beja’slegend

  12. A long time ago, a huge monstrous Snake appeared from the forest around the city of Beja and terrorized, killed and besieged the people of the city. One day, a smart man had the idea of poisoning a strong bull and making it fight the snake. The battle was terrible and in the end the snake died after it swallowed the bull, which head remained outside of the Snake's mouth. Since then, the people of Beja celebrates the sacrifice of the bull by depicting it on the city's coat of arms along with the eagles and the castle.

  13. Frau Holle

  14. A widow had two daughters, one was beautiful and industrious, the other was ugly and lazy. One day, the beautiful daughter pricked her finger while she was spinning and dropped the spindle in the well. While trying to get it back, she fell in, too. She awoke in a wonderful place. She helped an elderly woman with the housework, took the bread out of the oven and gathered the ripe apples. The beautiful daughter grew homesick and the elderly woman covered her in gold as she crossed the doorway. When the girl went back home and told everything, her mother wanted the ugly daughter to go as well.

  15. She went into the well and awoke in the same place, but she didn't want to help Madame Holle with the bread and the ripe apples because she was lazy. When she wanted to go back home, she crossed the doorway and was covered in pitch, which stayed on her for a long time

  16. The singing match

  17. A young lapp boy named Joukahainen envied the elder Väinämöinen, a wise and famous poet of ancient memories. The boy decided to challenge the old man and set off to meet him. The old man was annoyed but accepted the challenge and started singing: lakes rippled, the earth trembled, rocks split and Joukahainen found himself stuck in a bog, where he was slowly sinking. In order to be freed, he offered the wise man everything he had, but Väinämöinen refused. In the end Joukahainen offered his sister as a ransom: she would clean, tidy and cook for him. The old man accepted and freed the boy, who set off full of sorrow with his sled.
