CUSTOMS • Eat a Big Family Meal • Play Mahjong • Children are given red envelopes with money inside • Launch Fireworks • Firecrackers are lit • Drums are played on the streets • Red lanterns (lamps) glow at night • Red ribbons,paper dragons and red banners are hung on doors to drive away evil sprits from the old year.(In case Nian is still hiding somewhere!) • New Year Parades complete with a dragon and a lion dance.
