  1. WELCOME

  2. DEVELOPING AN INTEGRATED APPROACH TO DCG

  3. Integrated Approach ? To facilitate a concept /principle based approach to the teaching of the core and the options……………… Once understood this knowledge can be applied to all relevant subsections within the syllabus The objective of this approach is to create a framework for learning which will extend to all aspects of the course

  4. Current Position Chief Examiners Report for Leaving Certificate Technical Drawing 2006

  5. Desired Outcome Develop an understanding of all key concepts/principles using a wide variety of resources which can be applied by students to a variety of topics

  6. Catch a man a fish and feed him for a day … teach him how to fish and feed him for life • Focus on the why in tandem with the how

  7. (B) Communication of Design and Communication Graphics Applied Graphics (Select two out of five Areas) Structure of Syllabus (A) Plane and Descriptive Geometry

  8. Initial challenge What are the key concepts/ principles that will allow us to create links within and between the three elements of the syllabus ?

  9. An Example of a Key Principle Horizontal sections of equal altitude through any intersecting surfaces will meet on their line or curve of intersection

  10. Cutting Planes

  11. Cutting Planes

  12. Applications ? • Intersecting planes • Interpenetration • Cut solids/ oblique planes • Roof Geometry • Roof Shells • Earthworks

  13. Practical Examples Slates

  14. Practical Examples Tiles

  15. What type of Resources • Worksheets…freehand sketching/ instrument drawn/computer drawn… …..A3 and A4 • Video clips…as previously shown • An extensive compilation of questions…initially on the individual concept then on its applications

  16. Availability of resources • When ?.........Sept 07…some available at that stage…development will continue • Where ?........Round 4/T4 website/ CD • Other concepts/ principles ????

  17. Some Key Principles • A line projects as a point when we look along its true length • A Plane projects as an edge when any line on the plane projects as a point 3. A line perpendicular to a plane will be perpendicular to the traces of the plane

  18. Application of Principles What areas of the Core and Options do these principles apply to ?

  19. Example “A Line projects as a True Length when any view perpendicular to the line is taken” Identify areas of the syllabus in which an understanding of this concept can be applied

  20. Applications • Intersecting planes • Solids in contact • Interpenetration • Cut solids/ oblique Planes • Perspective Projection • Roof Geometry • Mining geometry • Roofing shells etc…etc…etc…
