  3. Rigor is key to student success • Students need to challenge themselves • Research shows a C in an AP class is much more beneficial than an A in a regular course

  4. Math gets you into college • Algebra II or higher • Starts in middle school

  5. Reading and Writing keep you in college • Take the most challenging course you capable of in middle school and high school

  6. Get involved • Students enjoy school and do better when they are more than just a student • Colleges are looking for involved students • Makes a school smaller

  7. Leadership over involvement • Leadership is a key component for life success • Besides grades leadership is what colleges are looking for • Doesn’t just happen- look for opportunities

  8. Stay on top of grades • Don’t wait till the last minute • 80% of HS students receive a D or F in 9th grade

  9. Good Habits are formed over time • So are bad habits • I rarely come across a student that can “switch gears” quickly

  10. Colleges compare kids from the same high school only • They do not take into account where you went to high school • They take into account as to what you did at the high school you went to

  11. UC’s are not better than CSU’s • Research shows CSU graduates do financially the same as UC graduates • Its learning style
