  3. 1. 10 year framework review • Announced by Chancellor • Consultation period now closed • Builds on significant increase in science funding • Rumoured possible doubling in real terms in ten years. Likely areas?? • Innovation • Full economic cost Reality Grid Workshop 15 June 2004

Full economic cost • Builds on Transparency Review work which identifies proper costs in Universities • First targets to understand proper costs of activities, including renewal of infrastructure • FEC for individual projects, by early 2005… • From 2005/6, RC projects more fully funded, by extra £120 million • but you won’t get it all! • Scale of potential bureaucracy unclear at best, alarming at worst Reality Grid Workshop 15 June 2004

  5. 3. RAE 2008 • New arrangements a significant step forward – see DJW input! • Govt committed to Dual support and RAE 2008, but the pressure rumbles on in context of Full Economic Costs and reduction in bureaucracy. Reality Grid Workshop 15 June 2004
