Remainders. When we solve a division calculation there is often a remainder. What we do with the remainder depends on the question asked. When faced with a remainder we usually do one of the following: State the remainder Round up Round down Give a decimal Give a fraction. Remainders.

  1. Remainders When we solve a division calculation there is often a remainder. What we do with the remainder depends on the question asked. When faced with a remainder we usually do one of the following: State the remainder Round up Round down Give a decimal Give a fraction

  5. Remainders 2) Round up Worded problems often need you to decide which way to round. A coach can fit 47 people in it. How many coaches are needed for a school trip for 300 people?

  8. Remainders 3) Round down Worded problems often need you to decide which way to round. Eggs are sold in boxes of 6. How many boxes can be made from 100 eggs?

  11. Remainders 3 & 4) Round up / down Sometimes you are asked to give your answer to the nearest whole number / 10 / 100 etc. Remember: if the digit after you round is 5 or more, we round up, otherwise we round down.
