  1. Schools around the world Ms. Holkova

  2. Children in Germany receive a special gift at the beginning of the school year. It is a cone called Schultüte filled with pens, pencils, books, toys, and snacks.

  3. Students in Japan are extremely independent. Children as young as primary school students travel to school alone using public transportation, clean their own classrooms and even carry lunch.

  4. In Holland, children start school on the day they turn 4, which means that there's always someone new in the class. 

  5. Students in China receive the most homework in the world. At an average, teenagers spend 14 hours of homework in a week.

  6. A forest kindergarten can be described as a kindergarten “without a ceiling or walls". It is a type of a preschool for children between 3 and 6. Whatever the weather, children play, explore and learn in a forest or other natural environment. 

  7. You can find the world's oldest school in Canterbury, England. The King's School, as it is named, was founded in 597 AD. 

  8. The City Montessori School in Lucknow, India, is the largest school in the world in terms of number of students, with more than 32,000 students.

  9. Abo Elementary School is the first underground elementary school in the United States. In case of a war or a nuclear attack this school could also function as a shelter. It was closed in 1995 because of increasing maintenance cost.

  10. In Telephonplan School in Sweden, there are no classes or classrooms. Instead, students are taught in groups. The school has got a colorful and imaginative interior where it is fun to learn.

For your next project presentation you need to prepare a poster about a school/schools of a particular country of your choice. • Don’t forget to include interesting facts and photos. • The presentation should take 3-5 minutes. • You will work in pairs. Write your and your partner’s name in the list. • The presentation is due Monday 31st November 2016.
