  1. PHOTOSYNTHESIS María Liste

  2. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants, in the presence of sunlight, turn carbon dioxide and water into oxygen and food, a simple sugar called glucose.

  3. Roots absorb water and minerals from the soil. This mixture of water and minerals is called raw sap.

  4. The stem carries the raw sap(water and minerals) from the roots to the rest of the plant.

  5. Leaves capture sunlight and take in CO2 from the air. How do they do it?

  6. Leaves have tiny openings called the stomata Carbon Dioxide enters the plant through these stomata

  7. Cabbage leaf stomata

  8. Plant cells contain chloroplasts. They are the organelles that capture light energy to make sugar

  9. Why are they green? because they contain chlorophyll: a pigment that is green . Spinach chloroplasts

  10. The leaves use the energy from the sunlight to transform the water and the CO2 into glucose and oxygen. Oxygen comes out of the plant through the stomata.

  11. The mixture of glucose and water is called ELABORATED SAP and is carried to every cell of the plant. (It’s the food of the plant)

  12. Do plants have a circulatory system? Humans have a circulatory system.

  13. Plants have tubes called XYLEM and PHLOEM They are like the blood vessels in the human body They transport water, minerals and nutrients to the entire plant

  14. Plant vessels

  15. Are you curious? Then...this video is for you. Transportation in plants

  16. Why do leaves change colour in autumn?

  17. The stem transports the glucose from the leaves (elaborated sap) to the rest of the plant. The plant uses the glucose to grow.

  18. Some of the glucose is used immediately The extra-glucose is stored in the form of starch or in the form of fats and oils in the roots in the steam in the seeds in the fruits or in the leaves.

  19. Plants store food in their roots

  20. Food stored in stems Potato tubers Onion bulb Underground stems Leeks

  21. Food stored in seeds

  22. Food stored in fruits Bananas Avocado Pumpkin Strawberries

  23. Plants store food in their leaves Parsley
