  5. Flashback • A stop in the action of a story to show something that happened earlier; it is used to give background information about the characters or the plot • Ex. In Titanic the movie, it is how Rose gave the “real life” flashback about what happened to the Titanic.

  6. Foreshadowing • The author’s way of giving hints or clues of things to come

  7. Hyperbole • A deliberate, often outrageous exaggeration used for serious or comic effect • Ex. The shot was heard ‘round the world!
