  1. International Research Experience for Undergraduates Monica Olvera, Northwestern University, DMR 0520513 NU-MRSEC hosted two European undergraduate researchers during the summer of 2008 through a partnership with the American Chemical Society and the European Chemistry Thematic Network (ECTN). The International Research Experience for Undergraduates program (iREU) is an exchange of U.S. and European students who are hosted at existing summer research programs, such as the NSF-REU. Nadine Walter from Germany performed simulations of laser-induced alignment of Iodine molecules on a Silicon surface. Audrey Forticaux from France worked on the thermoreversible gelcasting. The students participated in all REU activities and were housed with the U.S. students to encourage cultural exchanges.
