  1. Tiempos Simples Se llaman así ya que sólo necesitan de un verbo para su conformación. La fórmula básica de los tiempos simples es: Sujeto + Verbo + Complemento Lic. Karla Gómez

Presente simple con el verbo “to be” Cuando se trata del verbo “to be” (ser o estar), hay que tener presente que este verbo de por sí puede formar oraciones afirmativas, negativas e interrogativas; sin embargo, su forma escrita varía según el sujeto de la oración. Nota: no confundir las oraciones afirmativas o negativas con las respuestas afirmativas o negativas. Lic. Karla Gómez

  3. Ejemplos • Oraciones afirmativas: • The kids are in the house. • I am happy today • He is at the beach. • Oraciones negativas: • The kids aren’t in the house • I am not happy today • He is not at the beach. Lic. Karla Gómez

Oraciones interrogativas • Se clasifican en dos tipos: • Interrogativas cerradas: son aquellas cuya respuesta o es SI o es NO Para formar oraciones interrogativas cerradas debemos intercambiar el sujeto con la conjugación del verbo. Observa el ejemplo. We are in class in class ? Are we Lic. Karla Gómez

  5. Oraciones interrogativas abiertas:son aquellas cuya respuesta puede ser cualquiera. Se caracterizan por comenzar con pronombres interrogativos que llevan Wh al principio. What ¿Qué? / ¿Cuál? When ¿Cuándo? Where ¿Dónde? Why ¿Por qué? Whose ¿De quién? Who ¿Quién? Whom ¿A quién? How ¿Cómo? A nivel general, las preguntas abiertas se construyen de la siguiente forma: Wh + Verbo “to be” + Sujeto + Complemento? Ejemplo: When are you in class? Lic. Karla Gómez

  6. Sin embargo, cuando se utiliza el “who”, hay dos posibilidades Si queremos preguntar con quién, se utiliza Who + verbo “to be”+ sujeto + complemento + with? Ejemplo: Who are you in class with? ( ¿Con quién estás en clase?) Pero si solamente queremos preguntar quién, se utiliza Who + is + complemento? Ejemplo: Who is in class? ( ¿Quién está en clase?) Lic. Karla Gómez

Para formar oraciones interrogativas o negativas con otros verbos, utilizamos los auxiliares do / don’t (para I, You, We y They) y does / doesn’t (para He, She, It) Observa: Do you speak English? No, I don’t. I speak Italian. What does he do every morning? He goes to work every morning. Lic. Karla Gómez

  8. Es importante recordar que con “He, She, It”, el verbo sufre algunas modificaciones en su escritura • Se le añade “es” si termina en vocal. Ejemplo: He goES out at 4:00 pm • Se le añade “s” si termina en consonante o vocal+ Y Ejemplo: She cookS very well – He playS soccer • Si termina en “consonante+ y”, ésta se cambia por “i” para luego añadir “es” Ejemplo: She studIES hard Lic.   9. Pasado simple con el verbo “to be” El verbo to be tiene dos conjugaciones posibles en pasado No obstante, a nivel gramatical, las oraciones se estructuran de la misma forma que en presente Lic. Karla Gómez

  10. Observa: They weren’t at the beach The child was really excited Were you in class? Who was out of the house? Con los demás verbos se utiliza el auxiliar Did / didn’t. Recuerda que si en la oración empleas el auxiliar, el verbo no puede estar conjugado. Observa: We went to Margarita We didn’t go to Florida Did you go to USA? When did you go on vacations? Lic.   11. Ten presente que los verbos en pasado pueden ser • Regulares: son aquellos que tanto en pasado como en participio terminan en –ed. Ejemplo: Visit / visited • Irregulares: son aquellos cuya forma escrita puede variar o no de presente a pasado o a participio. Ésta variación tiene tres posibilidades: • -Todos iguales como Cut – Cut – Cut • -Todos diferentes como Speak – Spoke – Spoken • -Dos iguales como Run – Ran – Run • Have – Had -- Had Lic. Finalmente, en futuro simple se utiliza el auxiliar “will”, cuya negación es “will not” o “won’t” La fórmula varía ligeramente en este tiempo verbal, ya que se tiene que la oración se estructura con Sujeto + Will + Verbo no conjugado + Complemento Observa: They will be at the mall You won’t stay at home Will she come tomorrow? Completa las siguientes frases con el tiempo verbal que consideres más adecuado, luego chequea tus respuestas. -Paul (to see).................an UFO last night. -The cow (to eat)...........much grass in the field. -You(to write)...............an e-mail to your sister every day. -Mary (to watch)............Eminem's film this afternoon. -You (to work)...............at the school next week. -The girl (to stop).......... the car at the bus stop yesterday. -My family (to go)...........to the beach every summer. -Peter (to read)..............a book at home.
