  2. Monday 3/17 • Read the “Growing Up In Kenya” article on page 434 of your textbook. • Describe at least 2 differences between your culture and the culture of the Masai.

  3. Monday 3/17 – Culture – East • Kiyuku: largest ethnic group in Eastern Africa. Population of about 6.6 million. (are a bantu tribe) • Known for Mau Mau rebellions against British colonialism. • Taboo to say the number 10 and believed to be taboo to tell someonethe number of children you have.

  4. Monday 3/17 – Culture – East • Masai: ethnic group who live in grassland and rift valleys of Tanzania. • Sew traditional clothing and also make clothing out of calve and buffalo skin. • Grease clothes with cow fat to protect from sun and rain. • Also known for intricate beadwork and jewelry

  11. Wednesday 3/19 – Culture – west • Ashanti: native tribe in Ghana. • Known for use of asasia and kente clothe. Make intricate designs on clothing. • Only royalty is allowed to wear Kente clothe. • Also known for masks and stools.Stools represent connection between the spirits and the living. • Also known for the design work with coffins.
