Playground • Following extensive consultation with • local children, design elements agreed: • Large tower with slides • Jungle play area • Zip lines • Large maze • Timber play equipment, woodchip surface • Play features incorporating water, sand, stones, & tree trunks • Junior and senior play zone
Overflow Carpark/Toilets/Seating • Provision of additional toilets in Sports Pavillion • Installaton of 10 picnic seats • 11 other seats throughout park • 5 timber seat along woodland walk • 6 steel & timber benches in north of park • 10 bins • Overflow Car Park • To cater for 120 cars • Close to old courtyard • Coffee shop & art/crafts shop envisaged for courtyard in the future
Fishing Pond & BMX Track • BMX Track • First combined BMX, dirt and pump track in Ireland • Competition level BMX course • Designed in conjunction with BMX Ireland • 2 Acre Fishing Pond • 20cm to 1.5m in depth • Natural shape/contours • Fed by park drainage and drainage link from Royal Canal • Safe for people of all ages
Bulbs & Tree Planting • Significant additional planting in Northern part of park • 350,000 bulbs to be planted large masses • Daffodils, Camassias, & Alliums • Tree planting in North of park also • To provide shelter & interest • Tree avenues to be planted: Japanese flowering Cherries, Limes, Chestnuts and Weeping Willows
Derelict buildings • Old Cottage and former Storage Yard • To be demolished • Stone to be crushed and used as fill for car park • Site to be incorporated into dirt track trail • Old Church • Found to unsafe and has been fenced off • Temporary measure • Work to undertaken to make building safe • This will not be a refurbishment
Woodland Management 51 dangerous trees to be removed along the walkway 100 Sitka Spruce to be removed as thinning operation
Funding Requirement • Dept of Finance have ruled: • “There must be Local Community Group involvement in the project in question – at least 5% of the cost of the project must be provided by the Community Group in the form of cash.” • 5% = €32,892.34 We need your help to raise €32,892.34
Project Structure * Rules of funding as dictated by Dept of Finance require that: There must be local involvement via a Local Community Group Laraghcon Residents Association have volunteered become the local community group sponsor to enable project to proceed St. Catherine’s Park remains a public amenity for the benefit of West Dublin and Kildare and Meath.
