Introduction • We have to describe the functionality of the ENUM protocol, then to create a simple scenario of a typical ENUM procedure (using MS PowerPoint or Macromedia Flash) • For our researches, we mostly used Internet. We found a description of the ENUM project and an explanation of the process

  4. Why have we chosen the subject? • We first decided to work on the UMA. • The subject was already taken. We wanted a subject about telecommunications: the ENUM protocol is a topic that concerns it best.

  5. About this subject : definition • ENUM is a protocol which is the result of work of the IETF's Telephone Number Mapping working group • This protocol uses internet DNS to translate E.164 telephone numbers into IP addressing schemes (website, e-mail, …)

  6. About this subject : applications • This protocol makes the convergence of several telecommunications means: • Telephone • E-mail • Website • Fax… • Thanks to a simple phone number

  7. About this subject : Powerpoint Animation • Our project includes to create a simple scenario of a typical ENUM procedure • We are creating an animation showing the different steps of the protocol, from the number typing to the reception of the information (call, e-mail, fax…)

  8. Difficulties we have met • Many organisms interfere, we had to be aware of the role of all of them • Our sources are mainly in a technical english, what makes it hard to understand

  9. What we have learnt • We discovered that telecommunications world is very complicated (many actors, standards…) • ENUM protocol may ease tomorrow’s informations exchange
