Environment • The Grasslands can be referred to as the Prairies, Steppes, Pampas, and Veldt. • They cover a span of thousands of miles , through the continents of North America, and Asia. • They have hot summers and freezing winters. • The rain in this area, is not good enough to support lots of trees. • Wildfires keep the grassland free of trees, the fire kills any seedling of trees. plants in the grasslands have adapted to it, and need them to keep healthy and grow new vegetation in the spring.
Animals • Grasslands are usually home to unique types of animals. • Mostly plant eaters and herbivorous life in this biome. • Large bison used to be plentiful there until they were almost killed off to extinction. • There are many different types of birds found here. • Other animals are coyotes, bob cats, gophers, lynx and many more.
Plants • Grass, of course is this biggest population of a plant. • The North American prairies are a lot more diverse than just having grasses. • There are many colorful flowers, especially during the warmer summer months.
Climate • It is basically always dry in these areas. • There is usually not more than 100 cm of rain a year and there’s a minimum of 20 cm. • They cant really determine the exact clime of this biome because studies show there was a prairie maintained by Native American tribes using fire as their tool. By taking away trees and making grassland they increased biodiversity.
