  4. What Makes Them a Target Group? • 2,741,171 people between ages 5 to 17 are disabled in the U.S. • 29,741people between ages 5 to 17 are disabled in Iowa.

Emotional Autism Disturbance • Definition: impairment of social interaction and communication, and by restricted, stereotyped patterns of behavior • Spectrum Disorder • Early Intensive Behavioral Education • Obsession: use the special interest area to teach the child. • Definition: emotional or behavioral responses so different from regular responses it hinders education performance. • Classroom Environment: Make sure rules and expectations are understood • Self-Monitoring • Self-Evaluation

MentalRetardationMultiple Disabilities • Definition: limitations in mental functioning and in skills of communicating that disallow the individual to take care of themselves or learn at normal standards. • Functional Curriculum: vocational learning • Active Student Response • Feedback! • Definition: combination of several disabilities that alter the mental and/or physical capabilities of the individual. • Student- Aid • Community Based Instruction: help and instruction does not stop at schools, it is carried on at home as well.

Specific Learning Disabilites • Definition: a disorder in which one or more of the basic psychological processes are hindered in understand or learning the language. • Most Diagnoses in this Area • Affected Areas: Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, Reasoning, and doing Math. • Strategies: • Repetition • Vocational Learning • Support and Watchful Criticism
