  2. The Need Of Patience: • Heb. 10:36 • To become partakers of the divine nature we MUST add patience - 2 Pet. 1:4-6 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: Hebrews 10:36

The Meaning Of Patience: • Greek, HUPOMONE, translated "patience". • HUPO meaning "under" plus MENO which means "to abide“. • The characteristic of love is patience - 1 Co. 13:7 • Patience is not just passive submission and indifference to whatever happens in your life. • If you endure through all, you will be saved - Matt. 10:22 • Patience is not just a segment of one's character. It is a spirit that pervades every fiber of one's disposition.

God Has Patience: • Heb 12:2 • Paul prayed that Christians might be directed into the patience of Christ - 2 Thess. 3:5 • Think of the rejection, disappointment and pain that Christ endured, not miraculously, but by strength of character. looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2

The Apostles Has Patience: • Paul said he was a minister of Christ "in much patience" - 2 Cor. 6:4 • He also said he endured all things for the elect’s sake - 2 Tim.2:10 • Sometimes one must endure even the "elects" themselves - Gal. 6:1 • Paul did not cease to pray that the disciples might be strengthened with all power for all patience - Col. 1:9-11

  6. The Difficulty Of Patience: • Patience is difficult to gain and hard to maintain, but it can be learned. • Notice the importance of what Peter says - 1 Pet 2:20 • The Bible speaks of the patience of Job - Jas. 5:11

  7. How To Develop Patience: • Patience is consciously developed as is any other quality of character. • It comes from enduring trails - Jas. 1:2-4; Rom 5:3 • Paul speaks of "patience and comfort of the scriptures" - Rom. 15:4 • Consider carefully Rev. 1:9; 1 Thess. 1:3

  8. The Reward Of Patience: • James 1:4 • Winning souls is a reward of patience - Lk. 21:19 • Psalms 40:1-2 • Chinese Proverb:" Patience for the moment, comfort for ten years." But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. James 1:4 I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. 2He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps. Psalms 40:1-2
