  2. What is Community Service? • Community service is an act by a person that benefits the local community. People become involved in community service for many reasons: for some, serving community is an altruistic act, for others it is a punishment.

  3. What is Community Service?Cont. • Community service therefore refers to projects that members of certain youth organizations, such as the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, Key Club International, JROTC's and some high school students perform. Some people may view Community Service as a hassle but others may view it as a good thing to do. It is also an alternative sentencing technique in a justice system. And at times groups of people will commit to perform service to the community as part of the gift economy(Wiki).

  4. What are the Benefits? • Community service provides a variety of unique benefits to the students, the community and to the organizations where students volunteer. It is very common that volunteers get much more out of their service experience than they expect. Also, the community gains resources and services that would otherwise be unavailable.

  5. What are the Benefits?Cont. • Also community service provides the critical missing link for many students, an opportunity to apply academic learning to real human needs and to make the knowledge gained usable in one's thinking beyond the situation in which the learning occurred(CSU). • Just like the saying, “Give a little. You'll get back so much more."

  6. Home Run Derby • Home run derby was KA’s attempt to some what get our fraternity out of debt. • The guidelines were that anyone could pay fifty dollars to hit 20 baseballs and try to hit as many home runs as possible.

  8. USTA Tennis Tournament • The Georgia/ Florida USTA tennis tournament was held at VSU. • I helped out by signing people in, setting up, and selling items at the concession stand.

  9. USTA Tennis Tournament • VSU’s head tennis coach took on this job and ran it as smooth as possible, considering that a majority of the roads were flooded.

  10.
