  2. What Happens During ThisNatural Disaster? A tornado is a rotating column of air that is in contact with both the surface of the Earth and some special kind of cloud, like a Cumulonimbus or a Cumulus cloud. During this natural disaster, the violent column of air moves quickly throughout an area, picking up anything it can find. It then sometimes throws objects around and even out of the tornado. Which can be extremely dangerous. Tornados can destroy many things like buildings, trees, cars, and farms. They can also kill people by picking them up and dragging them into the tornado or by picking up objects that can knock into people and severely hurt them.

  3. What Causes This Natural Disaster? This natural disaster occurs when different temperatures of humidity meet to form thunderclouds. This creates a dangerous, rotating column of air that is in contact with both the surface of the Earth and either the Cumulonimbus or Cumulus cloud.

  4. Where Does This Natural Disaster Most Commonly Happen? Tornados are most commonly found in agricultural areas. This is because tornados need moisture to feed the thunderstorms and instability that is associated with spring and summer warming. These are two things that agricultural areas need too.

Tornado Alley Tornados are constantly attacking North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Colorado, and Wyoming. These states together are called “Tornado Alley”. They are called Tornado Alley because it is very common for tornados to occur in these states. Tornados constantly tear down everyday places and kill many people here. More so than anywhere else in the United States. Because of all the tornados there, many people build safe rooms or underground places where they can hide for a little bit until the tornado is over. Even though they have tornados often in Tornado Alley, it still doesn’t mean people there aren’t scared when they come.

  6. Tornado Attacks in 2011 As of June 8, 2011, 1,458 tornados have been reported in the United States, of which 1,039 were confirmed. An estimated 536 people have been killed from these tornados. Most of the tornado outbreaks were reported in middle to late April and late May. This is the deadliest year for tornados since 1936 due mostly to the 322 deaths in April and 153 deaths in the 2011 Joplin Tornado. But the United States isn’t the only country getting attacked. Twelve tornados were spotted in Bangladesh and one was spotted in New Zealand. And another in the Philippines. But the United States has still gotten way more.
