What am I good at? 5. Job->Job ++ Q: What can I do to become better at my job and to advance? 4. Recuitment Process Q: What can I do to convince them that I am best suited for this job? 3. Identify availabilities Q: What jobs are available at the moment that meet my criteria?

Types of Jobs in IT&C • Engineer (Access Network, Core Network, VAS, Supervision, O&M, IP Data, Infrastructure) Prerequisities: • Knowledge about UNIX based operating systems • Knowledge of mobile network elements (BTS, BSC, MSC, GGSN, SGSN, SMS, MMS, VMS, IN) • Knowledge of mobile signaling protocols (ISUP, MAP, INAP) and IP stack protocols • Knowledge of IP networks Main responsabilities: • Hardware and software maintenance of Access/Core/VAS/IP Dataequipment • Resolving the TTs related to the above equipment • Creating/ implementing the work ordersrelated to Configuration Management • Proactive maintenance (regular tasks) • Project participation Tasks performed: Career Path: • Expert/ Senior -> Architect • Project Manager

Types of Jobs in IT&C • Software Developer (Billing, CRM, ERP, BI, Online) Tasks performed: Main responsabilities: • Developing new features/ flows for existing application • Developing new services that meet business requirements • Resolving the TTs related to the managed IS • Proactive maintenance (regular tasks) • Project participation Prerequisities: • Good knowledge and understanding of Telecom business and IS ecosystem • Experience with Java/ C++, SQL, PHP, Perl • Knowledge of ERP&BI solutions • Agile development -> SCRUM Tasks performed: Career Path: • Senior Software Developer -> Solution Architect • IT Project Manager

Types of Jobs in IT&C • Business Analyst (IT) Tasks performed: Main responsabilities: • Translate business requirements into technical ones • Support the business in defining the project scope considering IT/Telco services area of interest • Create feasibility analysis and reports for business initiatives • Project participation in transversal initiatives Prerequisities: • Good knowledge and understanding of Telecom business and IS ecosystem • ITILv3 Foundation • PM Methodologies: Prince, PMBok, SCRUM Tasks performed: Career Path: • Project Manager • People Management • Service/ Product Management • Consultancy

Types of Jobs in IT&C • Quality Assurance Tester (IT) Tasks performed: Main responsabilities: • Contribute to creating the product/ service testing strategy • Create test cases • Perform functional/ non-functional tests • Ensure that functional software is released to the required level of quality and that regression of features does not occur • Support the developers in understanding the necessary level of functional quality • Project participation Prerequisities: • Good knowledge and understanding of Telecom business and IS ecosystem • Software testing fundamentals: types of tests, testing strategy Tasks performed: Career Path: • Business Analyst • Software Developer

Types of Jobs in IT&C • Project Manager (Technical/IT) Tasks performed: Main responsabilities: • Ensure that projects are implemented covering the scope and in a timely and cost-effective manner. • Create and manage the project team, prepare the schedule, expenditure plan, manage the communication and risks of the project. • Support the business in defining the project scope considering IT/Telco services area of interest. • Write-down technical documentation and project presentations. • Collect information for internal reports Prerequisities: • Good knowledge and understanding of Telecom business, technical aspects and economic related to telecom legislation • ITILv3 Foundation • PM Methodologies: Prince, PMBok, SCRUM Tasks performed: Career Path: • People Management • Service/ Product Management • Consultancy

Types of Companies in IT&C Tasks performed: Tasks performed: Telco Service Providers: • Offer telco services to the end-users • Initiate RFIs, RFPs, RFQs to suppliers for different service platforms • Can opt to buy off-the-shelf products/ ask for customized developments • Integrate new service platforms within their network e.g. Orange, Vodafone, Cosmote, RCS&RDS Telco Suppliers: • Offer telco products - equipment/ services - to telecomm providers • Develop products from scratch according to client specifications • Customize existing products to respond to each client’s requirements • Contribute to the integration, testing and deployment of the new platform within the operator’s network e.g. Alcatel, E///, Comverse, Acision, ZTE, Huawei, Nokia VS

Job Application Tasks performed: Tasks performed: CV: • Include accurate facts • Mention as many individual projects as possible • Emphasize extra-curricular activities Cover letter: • Short presentation of your professional/academic achievements • Sincere and simple motivation of application • Emphasize on what makes you most appropriate for that job Interview types: • Group/ individual interview • HR/ Technical interview • Questions & Answers interview/ Self Presentation/ Test • Face2face/ on the phone/ video interview • Language: Romanian/ English/ Other !!! Be your own self. !!! Questions should not be unilateral. You, yourself, have to decide if the Company is suited for you.

  12. Career Advancement Welcome change. Pay attention to new opportunities. Improve your technical and interpersonal skills continually. Ask feedback from your coworkers. Get involved in many projects. Take initiatives. Do your job as good as you can. Be a true team player.

Wrap Up • Don’t rely entirely on the academic courses -> take part in extracurricular activities/ courses (personal development courses, CISCO, Programming, LINUX, foreign languages) • Start individual projects • Go to as many internships and workshops as you can • If possible, avoid working before graduation • Don’t be afraid of failure; start over until you find something that you actually like doing • Stay positive, creative and curios • Have fun
