  1. Welcome to the ATIA Webinar Room We will be starting shortly. Please check in using thePublic Chat feature. Type your name in the space on the right of your screen beneath the “Emoticon” icon and click “Enter”. If you use a screen reader, you will find accessibility features in the “Options “ menu, “Accessibility” submenu. Test your microphone, if you have one, to see if others can hear you. Use the mic icon on the bottom right hand corner of your screen or the Ctrl key on your keyboard. Depress the mic icon to talk and depress it again to switch off the mic. Hold the Ctrl key down to talk and release it when you are done. You will see a yellow “talking” balloon icon next to your names when you are speaking. If you see a red hand, that means that someone else is using the mic. To send or receive a Private Message, right mouse click on the individual’s name in the Online User list. Enter your message into the dialog window that will be displayed and press Send. To receive a message, select the blinking icon in your Windows tool bar (usually located at the bottom of your desktop). Emerging No RELIABLE means of EXPRESSIVE communication through SYMBOLIC language • Have some functional non-verbal communication (gestures, vocalizations, other nonsymbolic communication) • Able to attend, even briefly, to individuals, conversations, pictures, or symbols • Yes/no (acceptance/rejection) depicted with body language; i.e. no reliable yes/no for more complex communication

Context- or Partner-Dependent Has SYMBOLIC communication that is RELIABLE but limited to particular CONTEXTS or PARTNERS • Rely on partners to provide limited response set • Need frequent instruction and cueing • Difficulty with initiation • May only be functional in particular settings • Wide range with regard to # of partners and # of settings • May be able to generate novel utterances in specific situations
