Objective Coaching Points Coaching Hints To improve the quality of a balanced set position, hands, footwork and clean catch with good concentration Ready position / eyes on ball / relaxed Not too high on toes / good balance at all times. Also varied start positions as the GK starts at first post and centrally in the goal.   14. FINISHING DRILLS S GK GK S Objective Coaching Points Coaching Hints Fig. 21 – Warm-up Two GK’s are in one goal and 10 players are involved with two servers. Servers vary serve on the ground and in air. The distance can also change. Tasks are given to the players to complete the strike on goal but into the GK’s arms for accuracy over power.   15. FINISHING DRILLS 3 2 S GK 1 Fig. 22 – 4 Finishes Drill. One GK working with 1 striker and 3 servers The server plays a ball down the side of a cone at 1 as the striker runs to strike the ball at goal. The striker then runs back around cone to receive similar pass at 2. The striker then runs back around and then receives a ball from server 3 and strikes at goal, this continues for server 4. FINISHING DRILLS 3 2 S GK 1 Fig. 23 – 4 Finishes Drill - VARIATION One GK working with 1 striker and 4 servers The server 1 plays a ball, so that the striker can take a touch and play into goal. The striker then turns to server two and does the same action. The striker must then turn and attack opposite cone to receive ball from server 3 and then the same run to receive ball from server 4. TACTICAL GAMES Free Zone GK GK Objective Coaching Points Coaching Hints To improve the quality of defending when you are outnumbered Type of pass/ open stance / 1st touch Early support / communication / decision making Be aware of the fatigue factor in players in particular of the defenders. Let players try the sequence first before you begin to correct Allow players to have 1, 2, 3 and unlimited touches of the ball Fig. 29 – 2v3 open play. If two defenders win the ball they play into two red neutral players. If attackers score they simply get ball from red neutral player to attack again.

Once a ball is played into lone striker, two players must move forward to support the lone striker and make it a 3v2.

A server plays a ball into the attacking team who attack the large goal. If they score they loose possession. If the GK saves their shot they then send one player into the free zone to take one touch and play continues. If the GK saves the ball and it is turned away for a corner, then the server plays into the same team. Free Zone

  25. TACTICAL GAMES S GK Fig. 32 – 3v3+GK: If you score a goal, then you loose possession. If you receive a corner kick from play then you must turn to receive a ball from the server. If you win the ball inside the penalty area then you must pass ball outside penalty area to attack large goal Objective Coaching Points Coaching Hints To improve the quality of combination play in and around the penalty area as well as finishing Type of pass / open stance / 1st touch Early support / communication / decision making Watch the fatigue factor of players. Some players may also cheat once they realize they cannot win the ball and drop to recieve a ball from the server once a goal is scored.
