  1. Persuasive Essay On Dress Code As the temperature rises, so do hemlines and the suspension rate. Students get suspended for violating school dress codes by wearing outfits that 'show too much skin.' One can argue that revealing clothing is distracting, but some families and students agree that school dress code implementations end up just shaming girls. Dress codes, the epitome of high school, teach girls to act ashamed, not modest. According to most school boards that come up with the dress code, the outfits young women wear come across as too distracting for their peers, especially men, and make it unable for women to be viewed by the public with dignity and respect. Everyday, school dress codes target females–especially females that are more developed. Any girl that has ever attended public school knows about the struggle of a dress code. On those hot days as the school year approaches, girls pour over their closets trying to find an outfit they won't get called out for or sweat to death in. All their dresses are too revealing, their shorts too short, and their shirts reveal way too much shoulder–or so the schools say. Girls have been attacked time and time again with dress codes. Policies are almost always directed strictly towards girls; some even specify for girls only. These dress codes are not only sexist towards women, but they limit female's freedom of expression and their choice to feel comfortable, and they do not teach female's to have self confidence. Dress codes have some kind of restriction on every single item of clothing, among other things, a girl can put on. Shorts and skirts have to be a certain length–normally mid–thigh or knee length. Tops are required to have a certain size strap or sleeve, and bra straps are not allowed to be seen (God forbid a teenage girl wear a bra to school and her strap is visible). No shirts that reveal midriffs are allowed either. Sometimes the amount of how much a girl's back is showing is restricted, too. Leggings and yoga pants cannot be worn unless the shirt is long enough where the girl's fingers touch the shirt fabric, and in some schools they are banned completely. One has to control the amount of cleavage visible, which can prove very difficult for any girl, especially those that ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  2. Persuasive Essay On School Dress Code School Community Dress Code Most educational institutions all across the country implement restrictions on what students wear when they are on school grounds. These restrictions include dress codes that address what students can and cannot wear. The argument with dress codes and uniforms is that it helps students perform better in school by limiting distractions, while others claim that restricting what a student can wear at school can limit their freedom of expression. The immediate answer to the question "Should schools be able to control what students wear?" is a yes, all schools must have control over what students wear in the school premise within the bounds of a dress code to establish an appropriate learning environment. Moreover, educational institutions must enable school communities to take a more active role in updating the dress code by voting. Schools create general dress codes that try to compromise both parties, and it's not easy. According to the Associated Press, "people have different notions of what's appropriate and what's not – and what's distracting, and what's not." Standard dress codes set common rules to address the issue of what is right or wrong for a student to wear to school. Common themes for the dress code include the length of shorts and skirts; clothing with bare shoulder and midriffs; and clothing with illegal, profane, or suggestive content. Even some clothing restrictions are vaguely described as "appropriate length" or "fingertip rule" ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  3. School Dress Code Let's get to the point. The school dress code is unfair and restrictive. And although it's a good way to keep students from wearing anything violent or offensive, I find it to be rather... foolish. The administration puts up boundaries, restricting our self–expression through clothing. They state "to be successful in a place of learning, students need to focus their attention and energy on school–related matters" yeah, ok... So clothing is no longer related to school? Perfect! Now we can all come as bare as a tree in the winter, and not worry about matching makeup to clothes, since we won't have any on! Does the administration seriously believe that our clothing affects the so– called "learning environment"? Because in a survey led this very...show more content... The whole world knows that crop–tops aren't our ingenious invention, but merely a successful comeback from the 90's, the time when most of those restricting us were our age themselves! It's not our fault that fashion has moved on from their time. It's no longer jean–on–jean with huge short hair, but booty shorts with a pair of chucks on your feet, and no "rule" will stop us teens from following the most recent fashion trends, especially since we're so well–known for our thirst of rebellion. Obviously you can argue this case with the crime rate, and how its victims would be reduced if children dress less provocatively. But first, these types of situations don't typically happen on school grounds, and yet in public, they have no say as to what we wear. And second, in the same test done by www.staticbrain.org, results showed a 2% decrease, which again, was most likely a coincidence. And yet further research led by www.educationanswer.com proves that only 34% of parents, 5% of teachers, and 25% of students actually agree with the dress code. So bring light to my darkness. WHY is this absurd dress code still a thing? Even universities in Canada have one. However if we spend our wholes lives being dictated by and rebelling against it, when will we ever learn to dress ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  4. School Dress Code Essay Children and Teenagers express themselves by what they wear. That is one of the biggest arguments schools have and the overall biggest problems is dress code. Teenagers and children like to feel free and wear things that make them unique. Dress codes does not really affect the way students learn. I think that children should be able to wear what they want to school and not get sent home for it being to provocative or inappropriate. As I mentioned in the first paragraph children and teenagers have to express themselves by what they wear. It makes them who they by what they wear. It makes them who they are but schools these days have dress codes that's are absolutely ridiculous. Some schools have done away with girls not allowed to wear...show more content... I don't know why it's such a crazy thing this year but it is, they need to focus more on the violence not the dress codes. Kids need to express their uniqueness not wear the same thing as everyone else, it's not fair to them that they are treated like people are in prisons with the suits on. In general schools, dress codes are very important to the principal, because they think kids wearing a certain clothing cause's violence, bullying, fights, and distractions. I know there have been so many shootings, violence but schools around here not have to be punished from all of these big cities problems. Because some surrounding schools have uniforms, which would be awful for kids to wear. I mean if kids have inappropriate language on their clothing make them put tape on it or inside out, like it was back years ago when society wasn't completely violence. Big cities have such a problem with violence, and bullying and they blame it on the dress codes. In some cases it could be the problem but not always, because most of the time it's just a teenager trying to act out in anger, which they go off the deep end and do something crazy and then end up in jail. Other people think differently, they believe kids need to dress the same way, this saves bulling of the system. These people think that dress shorts, shoulder tops, hoodies, baggy clothing, etc. have children look and feel different from other students. Dressing the same way makes everyone feel the same ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  5. School Dress Codes Essay A dress code is simply a set of rules about what clothing may or may not be worn to a school that each student has to follow. Almost every school has a dress code that their students have to follow by during the school hours. Whether the students want to follow it, the policy can help them for a job in the future, because they know what is expected of them. Dress codes in high schools in the United States should be enforced to promote equality to every student to improve his or her educational and social experience. For example a school over reacted with their dress codes for homecoming. In Utah, "Twenty–four girls were asked to leave" even though their dresses were not short or revealing (Ramos). "The students did not return till New Year's Day"(Ozey.org) "John Tinker wore his black armband and was given the result of suspension". John wore the armband to show peace, but the school disagreed. The school did not stop John, he continued to wear the armband. Eventually the parents of John sued the school corporation. The parents and others ended the protest roughly. The students parents sued the schools district for violating the student's right of expression and left the school district was in the wrong for discipling the students. The district court dismissed the case, and held the school district's actions were reasonable. 6. School Dress Code Essay School Dress Code In the summer it gets very hot and humid, especially in the school buildings. From personal experiences a T–shirt and pants isn't meeting their needs, it doesn't let a student express who they are. Students can get highly uncomfortable throughout the day and may not give their full attention during their learning sessions. Clothing should not be one of the many objects that take away a student's learning. Self expression, pressure on student on what to wear, and personality should be a person's own decision not anyone else's. Everyone has a different style and their own uniqueness. Most people like to express their own style through clothing. Such as goth all black clothing, name brand department store pink and american...show more content... Whos the one to be blammed? Students for wanting what is being advertised or the designers for making clothing that can only be worn on the weekends or on summer vacation. One that might find something cute and comfortable the other might find over revealing. Should the schools police be more valued or the students on what they would like to wear. After all students should have more opportunity to express what they feel and how they want to portray themselves. There should be some agreement on what is over the top, but to also keep in mind that there are some solutions too the way people like to dress. Why couldn't the school meet us halfway? Could there be a rule that allows us to wear shorts and not show too much. Most people can't find shorts that are three inches above the knee let alone appealing ones. Even though Self expression, pressure on student what to wear, and personality should be a person's own decision not anyone else's there are some ways to compromise. CHS school board should all come to a conclusion and have staff and students take a survey on what their personal opinion is about school dress code with the length and width of students clothing. Yes, fashion is always changing so why not let the student be free and change with it! Lets all be comfortable and enjoy the wonderful learning CHS provides for us. 7. High School Dress Code Essay The dress code at Anaheim High School should be eliminated for all students. The school should be more focused on a student education than on what they wear. students have been told to change for wearing jeans that have holes in them and have missed lectures only because the teacher made that student go change because they have to uphold the decision of the school. In the District Website of Anaheim High School it informs the community about what their children can or can not wear according to the policy. 8. Should Schools Have Dress Codes Essay Blake Correia Mrs. Nicholson English 9 CP April 2, 2017 Should Schools Have Dress Codes? There are valid reasons for specific dress codes and school uniforms. Some argue that specific dress codes limits student creativity. However, I believe that the right of students to be safe and able to concentrate overrides the small inconvenience of creativity limited creativity. Too many dress codes can stop a student from being creative and expressing themselves. If kids are forced to wear specific clothes it may stop them from feeling like they can express themselves and their feelings. If everyone in the school, for the most part, looks the same, then studnts have no cause to bully others. 9. Persuasive Speech On Dress Code It's that time of the year again, back to school. As much as I'll miss my 15 year old daughter, I am so glad that we are back in session, that is unless we're talking about the Dress Code Blues. It is the third day of school today. My daughter casually informed us that she has already seen ten students get "dress coded". Now, the paraprofessional in me knows that you have to start the school year off strong. You enforce the rules early, and can relax a little once they are established and being followed. That's how it works in so many places, from group homes to high schools. Curiously thought, I asked my daughter what the ratio was, boys versus girls, when it came to students being caught violating the school policy. In response, she laughed out loud and waved me off as if the question had no validity whatsoever. I questioned her laughter, and she told me point blank, "In my entire school career, 11 years so far, I have only ever saw one boy get in trouble for what he was wearing, and that shirt had the 'F Word' on it". As we discussed the policy, and what was "fair" and "unfair", it occurred to me that this has always been the case when it comes to dress code and dress code enforcement. Girls are the target. Girls bear the burden of what's appropriate and what is inappropriate, but why? The hands down most common argument I have seen thrown around is that girls who break the dress code essentially instigate the boys in the classroom. I've seen it posted time after time, "boys can't control their hormones" or "boys will be boys" or "they only think with what's in their pants". As a father, I'm perplexed by this, as a father of a teenage girl I am appalled by the excuse making. Are we saying that boys can not be taught common decency, and that they simply can not stop themselves from giving into their own urges and desires? Should we be implying that girls don't deal with arousal issues at that age? Is it even safe to imply that it's somehow the responsibility of teenage girls not to incite the boys? Isn't that paramount to blaming the victim? Do you know that an overwhelming majority of dress code rules are specifically targeted to girls? Read them from time to time... 11. School Dress Code School dress code is possibly one of the most enforced rules in today's school system. Despite the issues of drugs, alcohol, or dangerous weapons on campus, the dress code system is clearly the most important issue in schools today. Who cares about the fighting, the bullying, or the education of students? A teenage girl's shoulder being shown is obviously much more distracting and dangerous to the school environment than kids throwing punches left and right. Everyday girls express themselves in new ways through the way they dress. Pants started as being ripped once at the knee, then all over the leg, but now they go as far as ripping holes straight through the back pockets! In Long Beach, there has been a major decrease of violence and discipline since 1994 ("Fact Sheet On School Uniforms," 2001). Proponents believe that school uniforms have been a major contribution to this decrease. What is the purpose of a school uniform? Where did this idea come from? Whether to wear a uniform or not has been a major debate for decades. The idea has been debated since the 1980's and was an issue when candidates ran for president in the 1990's. "Parochial and private schools have a long history of using school uniforms to project an atmosphere of uniformity, pride, loyalty, and equality among the student population" ("Educational Schools Uniforms," 1997). There are some purposes suggested by proponents of school uniforms. Since the Columbine High School tragedy, "school leaders have been grasping at any policy that could contribute to a more civil, safe and tolerant school environment" (Marchant, 1999). If every student in a school wore the same type of clothing, it would be easy for school officials to detect an intruder. This could possibly decrease violence and theft from outside the student body. Gangs have become a large problem in areas of the United States. 14. Argument For School Dress Code Brian Aguilera Mr. Rippon English 3, Period 2 4 September 2017 School Dress Code Argument Why can't people be happy in their own skin and feel confident in what they're wearing? Why don't schools let both boys and girls wear what they want? Of course, school dress code is more lenient on boys than on girls. Why can't girls wear crop tops to school without being sent to the office and being asked to change their shirt? And also not having to be getting judged by everything that they're wearing. Dress code may have made a lot of people not be happy with their own body, and have low self esteem, because school dress code has made them not feel comfortable in their favorite shirt or shorts etc. Everyone should have the right to wear what they want, even though there is limits students. Now granted, students should also understand that there are things that are inappropriate, but they should atleast be able to go to school and feel happy that, throughout the day they can have a good normal day at school without the students having to go to the office. We all know that there is different rules in almost all school dress codes that apply to guys and girls. For example, at some schools guys can't wear beanies during class but girls can. A girl can't have shorts that reach before their fingertips when they have their arms down. I personally feel like there shouldn't be "dress code" because for many people they like to express themselves by what they wear, why should schools make people feel uncomfortable? Not having uniforms can make the students feel competitive on what they wear and where they have got their clothes from. For some students those things do matter, but for some of them it doesn't matter they're going to school to learn, not to impress people at school. Some schools hate what their students wear to school, but don't they have like favorite pieces of clothing that they also love as much as the students do? If schools don't like what they are seeing in the student's "outfits" each day then they should start making students to wear their school uniforms. 15 year old, Miranda Larkin, was sent to the nurse's office for wearing a short skirt that violated the school dress code, and they made ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

Some dress codes make complete sense: no clothing with vulgar words, no gang affiliated clothing, no showing underwear. Other dress codes just seem completely sexist: no leggings, no showing shoulders, no shorts above knees. The reasons for these dress codes are usually "Its a distraction to the boys,"; but in reality, these dress codes are harmful and sexist to each of the genders. I remember in first grade, I was around 6 or 7, we weren't even aloud to wear spaghetti strap tank tops. Really ? School by definition is an institution for teaching children or giving instruction to any subject. It is not an institution for showing off your unmentionables. If a person were to care so much about their clothes, they could drop out of school and join the fashion industry. Fashion and school do not mix though! Outfits that show too much skin can cause distractions from learning and promote sexual behavior. Now who in the world would want to be thinking about sex rather than school? It's ridiculous and uncalled for. Some may argue it is necessary to have two different wardrobes in order to satisfy the dress code's requirements, and have clothes that look good. This is too expensive they argue. Well there's a solution. Buy clothes that look good, AND, meet the dress code's expectations. It's not THAT hard. Clothes that meet the dress code can look good too! 19. Argumentative Essay On Dress Codes It is of no possible argument that some of the most valuable and lasting ideas of life and the world around us are taught and learned at school. Hard work does you well. Cheaters never prosper. Education is the key to success. Girls bodies are a distraction and objects to be inevitably sexualized and harassed. This may sound over exaggerated, but this is the message beings sent to millions of students near and far by the sexist, self–esteem demolishing, unfocused dress codes in schools today. This said, dress codes in schools create a negative environment, putting the focus on the wrong things and ideas, both promoting rape culture and a strong sense of sexism. In this day, children can often feel as though they are at a loss of ways to express themselves. With the heavy burden of societal standards, clothes are one of the only "acceptable" ways students have left to express themselves with. The biggest and most relevant example of this today is Transgender and LGBT students, or those who identify with a different gender than the one they were legally born into. As said in The Movement Against Sexist and Discriminatory School Dress Codes, "Meanwhile, gender nonconforming and transgender students have also clashed with such policies on the grounds that they rigidly dictate how kids express their identities. Transgender students have been sent home for wearing clothing different than what's expected of their legal sex." 20. School Dress Code And Anti Dress Codes Essay Students have been affected by dress codes for many years. Others, for better or for worse, never had to deal with them. It has been debated for years between parents, students, and school systems alike as to whether or not dress codes are appropriate to enforce. This essay will summarize, make an argument, and analyze Krystal Miller's article on this subject, titled, "School Dress Codes". "School Dress Codes" is a 1990 article about the issues surrounding various city's experiences with enforcing a school dress code. In the article, four different high schools in Detroit are examined, as well as a school in Baltimore, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Depositions from both pro–dress code and anti–dress code persons are included. The opposing end includes Mary Louise Starks, who is in charge of the psychological services for the Detroit school system and says dress codes are not the solution to the violence, "A dress code is a temporary measure that is limited in scope. Students are committing these crimes because they don't have a sense of power and self–esteem. They steal from their peers to gain control over another person" (qtd. in Miller 87). An example of a pro–dress code student from the article is 17–year–old Jonathon Johns, a senior at Dunbar High School in Baltimore, who says, "Violence isn't as bad as it was. There's no way to prove it's all due to the dress code, but I feel it's had a big impact" (qtd. in Miller 87). There are several testimonies and ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...
