  3. WHAT IS ATTITUDE? • A state of mind • The way you see and feel about things • One of the few things in life that you can control

  4. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? • It influences how you act, feel, look, and how happy you are. • It influences others — even children. • Your success as a parent depends on it. • The right attitude will give you the edge.

  5. 6 Steps to Help Your Student become a more effective Learner • Develop a Special Study Area. • Stress the importance of the SSA. • Equip the SSA with study supplies. • Label drawers, shelves, and cabinets. • Provide a system for organizingschoolwork.

  6. WHAT IS CONCENTRATION? • It is paying close attention • It is a skill anyone can learn or sharpen

  7. WHAT CAUSES POOR CONCENTRATION? • Students Need: • A quiet place to study • No visitors during study time • Supervision

  8. Environmental Distraction • Television • Music • Friends • Telephone • Traffic • Parties

  9. CONCENTRATION REMINDERS • Study in the same • place every day • Study in a quiet place • Have study area ready • & properly equipped • (paper, highlighters, etc.) • Provide suitable ventilation, light & temperature • Study area is clear of clutter, noise and distractions

  11. 5 Steps to Effective Time Management • Help your student learn the importance of time. • Discuss the benefits of organizing time. • Allow your student to do chores at home • according to a time schedule. • Give your student family experience in planning use of time. • Teach your student to budget work time in school.

  16. HOW CAN PARENTS HELP WITH HOMEWORK? • Talk to your student about homework. • Do not do homework for your student. • Encourage your student to seek help when needed.

  17. Show an interest in your student’s homework. • Help your student organize homework assignments. • Establish rules for homework. • Make a “Homework” sign to signal work time.

  18. Allow students to unwind and get a snack before studying. • Allow students to take short breaks when studying. • Suggest that your student study difficult subjects first.

  19. Suspect something if your student doesn’t bring homework home at least once a week. • Use homework time to do “parent homework” along side your student. • Provide immediate positive reinforcement: “Great job with problem 2!”
