  8. OMT Flashcards & Reference Guide • Survey results have confirmed the need to improve Flashcards !! • Cards summarize OMT techniques for use as quick reference and study tools to prepare for exams • New this year: Quick-reference booklet !!

  9. Medical Spelling Bee • The format is a standard spelling bee system with medical vocabulary. The difficulty of the questions increases with every round. • Faculty and students are invited to attend. • All profits benefit the Biddeford Adult Literacy Program.

  10. Turkey Trot • 5K to benefit the Biddeford Free Clinic • 1K Peds Fun Run

  11. Box Top Collection • We will be collecting box tops this year. • Most likely a friendly competition between the OMI and OMSII classes • Winner chooses school recipient??

SERVICE WEEK • Presentations about UNECOM-affiliated Community Service opportunities. • Including the Biddeford Free Clinic, Biddeford Intermediate School Mentoring program, Biddeford Middle School Tutors, Portland Housing Authority’s Tutoring Program, the Monarch Center for Alzheimer’s Care, the Biddeford Soup Kitchen, Barbara Bush Pediatric Hospital, Joyful Harvest Neighborhood Center, UNE Neuroscience Outreach Program, National Multiple Sclerosis Society (Greater New England Chapter), Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Well at New Beginnings

  18. McArthur Home Game Night • We are starting a monthly game night this year for the McArthur Home Residents.

  20. Bacteriology Review • MSII’s provide a review session for the MSI’s in their preparation for their first Bacteriology exam. Biochemistry Review • MS II’s give a series of one-hour review presentations on topics in biochemistry. The lectures are open to first years – who will be taking the course at the time – and to second years – who need the review to prepare for Boards.

  21. Seniors/Alumni • Graduating SSP members are invited to a cocktail reception with SSP Alumni, faculty and deans during the week of graduation. First and second year SSP members are also invited to attend. Graduation Ushers • Available SSP members provide ushers for the UNECOM graduation ceremony

  22. Strong Scholarship • Each year, SSP Kappa chapter awards a $1,000 scholarship to a second year student who has demonstrated outstanding academic scholarship and provided noteworthy service to UNECOM, the osteopathic profession, and the surrounding community. We offer this scholarship in honor of the first dean of our college, William B Strong, DO. Members of the second year class are nominated by their classmates and submit an application, which is reviewed by a faculty committee of basic and clinical science professors.
