  1. Learning Aim B: Practically demonstrate Skills, techniques and Tactics in Badminton A guide book which describes the technical and tactical demands of Badminton for 9 – 12 year olds Name:

  2. For my guidebook I have decided to choose the following 4 skills that I think will be most • useful to you: • Choose 4 of these and describe the technique (how to play each of your chosen shots) see • hand out in your folder or do your own research from books or the internet: • High Serve • Low serve – forehand / backhand • Flick serve • Overhead clear • Underarm clear • Drop shots • Smash • Net shots • Remember to use some images to help you and describe in your own words how to • perform each of the skills…….

  3. Choose 2 of your skills and describe a drill that you can use for each one to improve • your performance. • Examples of skills: High serve, Low serve (forehand/backhand), Flick serve, Overhead Clear, Backhand Overhead Clear, Drop shots, Smash, Net shots. • For example, to practise the short backhand serve: • Repetition, Practise, Repetition! • The easiest way to improve your serve is by practising over and over. • The more you serve, the more accurate you’ll become. • To set up an ideal practice session for your serves, organise the following: • An entire court to yourself - ( Around 20 to 30 shuttles ) • A partner to give you feedback on the quality of your serves . • Being able to practise the short serve from each side of the court. • Having plenty of shuttles will make your sessions much more effective.

  4. Tactics • You then need to define what a tactic is. • (Use some of the information below to help you. Make sure you • put your answer in your own words). • Strategies and tactics within activities: • A strategy is a plan of action made before a game is played. You need to use • strategy to be successful. • In football, the 4-4-2 formation is a strategy. • A tacticis a plan that is made before you start playing in a game which thinks about your • own or your opponents’ strengths and weaknesses. • An attacking tactic is a game plan made up before or during a game to break down • opposition defence or to score. • Attacking Tactic - In badminton, I played several high overhead clears to the back right • hand corner, my opponent struggled to return these shots with his weak backhand, • I waited for a poor return and then played an unexpected fast downward smash • to the left hand side of the court to win the point. • You need to try and think of your own definition and put it into your own words…..

  5. Before choosing which tactic to use, you may need to consider a number of relevant factors. • Choose 4 factors from the list below that might influence which tactics you choose in a competitive game situation. • opponents’ strengths • own team or individual strengths • own team or individual weaknesses • opponents’ weaknesses • weather conditions • how much time remaining • team mate or opponent sent off or injured • physical or mental demands of activity • we were winning or losing • man sent off or injured • winning at the end of the game • losing at the end of the game • running out of time • our opponents changed their tactics • our opponents used a tactic we didn’t expect • the conditions didn’t suit our tactics • Taken from Bitesize GCSE

  6. Think of three tactics that you could use in Badminton and state what the tactic is and then describe how to use it in the game. Some examples of tactics to get you thinking……………… Movement pressure, central base position, hitting to the corners, hitting to the middle Remember to include diagrams and images to make your guidebook easy to follow and to help engage 9 – 12 year olds. Remember when producing this guidebook – you must try and develop your own ideas Technical – is describing how to perform the skill and tactical is how to outwit an opponent. Include any references / sources that you have used to help you………
