1. Context for Learning: Getting to know you! This Half Term we will be focusing on the three Prime Areas of Learning and Development • Communication & Language • & Literacy (Prime Area) • Speaking and Listening – learning to listen and respond • Encouraging and celebrating mark making (pre-writing skills) • Writing our names • Simple story structure • Learning our first set of phonemes (letter sounds) • Recognising print in the environment • Introducing children to Oxford Reading Tree • Individual and Guided Reading • Mathematics • Number songs • Sorting and matching objects • * Recognising numbers • * Counting forwards and backwards to ten and from a given number • * 2d shapes and their properties • * Finding one more and one less from a number • Understanding the World • People who help us at school and in the local community • Learning to use the Information Communication Technology in the classrooms • e.g. Interactive Whiteboard, Espresso (School Intranet) • Celebrating difference and diversity in our classrooms • Learning to say Hello in different languages. • Learning the parts of the body. • Expressive Arts and Design • Singing Harvest songs and introducing children to new songs • Self portraits – detailed paintings • Hand and feet printing • Percussion instruments – learning to conduct and follow the conductor! • Role-play – Home Corner • Physical Development (Prime Area) • Music and movement – following instructions • Body shape and simple control • Handwriting skills – e.g. tracing and threading, • Gross Motor skills - Building with large resources, streamers • Keeping healthy – talking about why we exercise, • washing hands and basic hygiene • Personal, Social and Emotional Development (Prime Area) • New beginnings – making new friends • Classroom and school rules • Sharing and Turn taking • Working in small groups – speaking and listening Skills and Knowledge – Reception Autumn Term
