  1. Lesson 38 Interrogative Pronouns and Adjectives Latin II March 10-14

  2. Interrogative Pronoun! A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun. Examples: he, she, it, you, we, they, who, what, this, that… Last week we learned relative pronouns: who, whose, whom, which, that. This week: interrogative pronouns!

  3. Interrogative Pronouns • Like their name suggests, interrogative pronouns are used to ask questions. • Who is that girl? • What is she doing? • The Latin interrogative pronouns for “who” and “what” are QUIS and QUID

  4. quis, quid who? what? Good news! The interrogative pronoun chart is the same as the relative pronoun chart we had last week…without the feminine singular column!

  5. quīs(who?) cuius(whose?) cui (to whom?) quem(whom?) quō(by whom?) quī quōrum quibus quōs quibus The Interrogative Pronoun Quis, Quidwho? what? M./F. N. quid (what?) cuius(of what?) cui (to what?) quid (what?) quō(by what?) quae quōrum quibus quae quibus Nom. Gen. Dat. Acc. Abl. Sg. M. F. N. quae quōrum quibus quas quibus Nom. Gen. Dat. Acc. Abl. Pl.

  6. Interrogative Pronouns in Action! Who is the girl? • Quisestpuella? • Quidfacit? • Cuidicit? • Quempuellaamat? What is she doing? To whomis she talking? Whom does the girl like?

  7. Interrogative Adjectives! An adjective is a word that describes a noun. An interrogative adjective is used to ask the question “what x?” or “which x?” where “x” is any person or thing. Which boys did you see? Whose book was lost?

  8. Interrogative Adjectives! Good news! The interrogative adjective in Latin is the EXACT SAME CHART as the one we used for relative pronouns last week! Note that the interrogative adjective is never translated as “who” like the relative pronoun. You wouldn’t say: “Who man is that?” You’d say: “Which man is that?”

  9. quī cuius cui quem quō quī quōrum quibus quōs quibus quae cuius cui quam quā quae quārum quibus quās quibus The Interrogative Adjectivequī, quae, quod – which? what? M. F. N. quod cuius cui quod quō quae quōrum quibus quae quibus Nom. Gen. Dat. Acc. Abl. Sg. Nom. Gen. Dat. Acc. Abl. Pl.

  10. Let’s Compare!Interrogative Pronoun vs. Interrogative Adjective Remember: A pronoun takes the place of a noun; it stands alone. What are you playing? Who is that girl? Who is going with me? To whom did you give the money?

  11. Let’s Compare!Interrogative Pronoun vs. Interrogative Adjective An adjective DESCRIBES a noun already there. Whatmusic are you playing? Whichgirl is that? Whichchild is going with me? To whichperson did you give the money?

  12. Let’s Practice! • Workbook, page 140, Exercise E • Numbers 1-10 • Translate the sentence (write Latin and English) • Then answer the question (mythology!)
