Concluding Summary • Throughout the interacting ecological systems it can be viewed that there are many aspects that are a part of Claude’s developing life, and there are factors that may need to be included; such as formal care as in a preschool or early learning center, schooling . This will help him develop many of the perhaps lacking skills he will need to develop for his interaction within society. • Claude does not meet with the current averages, and comes from a culturally diverse background, he lives with his grandmother, uncle Billy, and siblings where their is love, safety and security; this will help to establish feelings of trust in others. • He does not attend any kind of formal care which may see his social, emotionally and cognitive development hindered and therefore disadvantaged when he commences in the primary education system. • Feeling disadvantaged, Claude may become part of more than 10 percentage points between Aboriginal students in NSW and all NSW students reaching national literacy and numeracy benchmarks in Years 3, 5 and 7 with the gap increasing from Year 3 to Year 7. Appendix-Claude’s story • At age 2, Claude and his brother and sister, Tommy who is 9 and Kate who is 6, were relieved from their parents, who they lived with in the Northern Territory, and were placed in the Out of Home Care program by DOCs, to be with their grandmother and uncle in N.S.W. • They are much happier living with their grandmother, who teaches them the Dreamtime stories of their ancestry and their uncle Billy who provides for them.
