  1. HOW TO HANDLE COMMON DENTAL EMERGENCIES TOOTHACHE Rinse your mouth out with warm water if your tooth is hurting. Use dental ?oss to remove any food that's gotten lodged between teeth. A cold compress on the outside of the mouth can help relieve pain and swelling. Don't put aspirin or other painkillers directly on the tooth or gums. CHIPPED TOOTH Rinse your mouth with warm water, and be sure to rinse any pieces of tooth. Save any pieces that have broken off and bring them to the dentist. Use gauze to help stop any bleeding of the gums, lips, or cheeks. Apply a cold compress to the painful area. KNOCKED-OUT TOOTH Hold the tooth by the crown and rinse it off if it's dirty. Don't remove any tissue that's still attached to the tooth. Try to place the tooth back in its socket, making sure it's facing the right way. If you can't reinsert it, put it in milk or saltwater on your way to the dentist. STUCK OBJECT Try using dental ?oss to gently remove whatever is stuck in your mouth. Sharp instruments could slip and injure delicate tissue in the mouth. If you can't dislodge it, do not use pins or other implements that could scratch your enamel. See your dentist right away to have the issue addressed. www.thegillclinic.co.uk 020 8948 1040
