  1. Homemade Bokashi Composting Supplies for Your Garden

  2. If you are a gardener or a farmer, you’ve heard of composting, and you probably already know why it’s great for your gardens and the environment. But what if you don’t have enough space for compost, or the time to do it? The Bokashi composting method might be the perfect solution. What is Bokashi composting? “Bokashi” is a Japanese word which means “fermented organic matter.” Bokashi composting is a process that mixes microorganisms to cover food waste as it breaks down, and get rid of foul smell of decomposition. Many years ago this process was employed by Japanese farmers, but now this method is appreciated worldwide by farmers and gardeners. Essentially, Bokashi composting pickles food waste, making it break down faster without any noxious fumes.

  3. Procedure- All your food waste should be placed in an airtight container, along with a few sprinkles of Bokashi Compost Accelerator. When the container is full, let the materials pickle (ferment) in the container for 2-4 weeks. The pickling process is responsible for controlling pathogens as well as breaking down seeds if they are present in the container. When the food waste ferments, the microorganisms produce a variety of vital nutrients including vitamins, amino acids, trace minerals, plant hormones, and organic acids. After 2-4 weeks, the content should be added to your garden soil so that worms, insects and bacteria like beneficial microbes can finish their process of digestion. What Goes In- In homemade Bokashi buckets, you can add kitchen scraps of all kinds including meat, fish, cheese, citrus peel, egg shells, and even small bones. Bokashi composting can be done in a specialized bin with a drain spout, or any 4-5 gallon bucket or a larger as per your needs and preferences. When the bucket is full, set it aside. When you open it after 2-4 weeks, the contents inside the bucket will be thoroughly pickled.

  4. Benefits- Numerous benefits come from the use of our Bokashi composting supplies. As it is done in a closed bin, there are no flies or rodents to worry about as opposed to regular compost piles. Also, the closed bin doesn’t have any rotten smell—rather, it is scentless when sealed, and when opened there is only a mild odor like apple cider vinegar, which means you can keep it in your kitchen. With the help of our Bokashi buckets, the amount of waste produced from your kitchen can be reduced. In addition, there are no greenhouse gases like methane, carbon dioxide, or ammonia released as with normal composting. As result of the effective fermentation in Bokashi composting, nutrient-rich and bio-active compost and liquid fertilizers can be formed. Want to purchase Bokashi composting supplies?
