  2. What is a pronoun? • A pronoun is a word used in place of a noun or another pronoun.

  3. What is a personal pronoun? • a pronoun that refers to the speaker, somebody being addressed, or another person, e.g. "I," "you," or "she"

  4. What is Pronoun Case? • Personal pronouns take different forms depending on how they are used in sentences. The form of a pronoun is called its case.

  5. What are the different pronoun cases? • Nominative • Objective • Possessive

  6. What is Nominative Case? • Personal Pronouns that function as subjects or as predicate nominatives are in the nominative Case. Ex. I like the legends of King Arthur. He united the knights. (subjects) Ex. Queen Guinevere and he were wife and husband. (compound subjects-one a noun , one a pronoun) Ex. It was he who gathered the knights of the Round Table. (predicate noun)

  10. What is Objective Case? • Personal pronouns that function as direct objects, indirect objects or objects of prepositions are in the objective case Ex. Merlin the Wizard, Arthur’s friend, helped him. (Direct Object) Merlin gave him loyalty.( Indirect object) Most of Arthur’s knights were also loyal to him. (Object of Preposition)

  14. What is Possessive Case? • Personal Pronouns that show ownership or relationships are in the possessive case. • Possessive case pronouns can be used in two ways: 1. In place of a noun. The possessive pronoun can function as a subject or object. Ex: We learned their history through our reading 2. Remember that gerunds act as nouns and can be modified by a possessive pronoun Ex. Our sailing to Australia was a terrific experience.
