Mission • Educate:Educate the public about the health status of children and the significant role played by school-based health centers (SBHCs). • Advocate: Advocate on local, state and national level to improve quality of care, health of children, and secure funding for SBHCs. • Provide Professional Development: Provide trainings, discussion forums, and participate in collaborative initiatives. Provide center staff and other members with knowledge and skills to strengthen services provided. • Build Relationships: Facilitate collaboration through networking with schools, public agencies and community based organizations to enrich SBHCs by sharing ideas and providing space for problem solving.

  4. 2012 AzSBHCC Highlights • Featured panel of 2011 HRSA awardees at Annual Meeting • Navajo Area Indian Health Services, Chinle area • North Country Healthcare, Flagstaff area • United Community Health Center, Tucson area of Pima County • Sunset Community Health Center, Yuma County • Banner Health, Phoenix area • Sponsored 2 members to attend the 2012 NASBHC meeting in • ALBQ, NM • Sponsored Board member to represent SBHCs at National Latino Children’s Summit, Oct. 19-20 • Provided Letter of Support to Yavapai Regional Medical Center for 2012 HRSA application • Offered 3 $1,000 grants to SBHCs for pharmaceutical and ancillary products

National Assembly for School Based Health Centers • AzSBHCC is the state affiliate of the National Assembly for School Based Health Care (NASBHC) http://www.nasbhc.org • HEALTH CARE REFORM • Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148), passed March 2010 • Section 4101(a) sets aside $200 million over 4 years (FY 2010-2013) for construction, renovation, and equipment needs for SBHCs. • HRSA released $109 million in awards to 323 SHBC sponsors, covering 866 new and existing health centers around the nation. • In 2011, $1,958,317.00 was awarded to 5 SBHCs in Arizona. • 2012 proposals submitted for FY13, approximately 160 awards expected to be funded. • Grants for Operations: ACA (section 4101(b)) provides authorization to appropriations committees of the house and Senate to fund operations needs of SBHCS. Ongoing $50 million advocacy campaign!
