"FOOD,WATER,NATURAL WEALTH,ENVIRONMENT AND PRECAUTIONS FOR PRUDENT USE & ROLES OF IIW Everyone plays a specific role in the food chain of life and the environment. You might be a human being thinking you are the king of the hill or you might be a bacterium under the feet. You are very important for the survival of the system no matter what role you play.
“RIGHT TO AN ADEQUATE STANDARD OF LIVING, INCLUDING ADEQUATE FOOD,WATER AND ENVIRONMENT”, AS WELL AS THE "FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT TO BE FREE FROM HUNGER“ IS A HUMAN RIGHT
FOOD • At the beginning of mankind ,when people didn’t know how to plant and produce food so they had to pick crops and hunt animals as food. • Population increased and they started primitively plant crops 10 thousand years ago • They needed larger quantities of food = larger planting areas to plant= fights among tribes = fight among Nations= establishment of International Rights and Laws. • At the later stages, the quality of crops has become important. • Some very agricultural nations are almost dominating the production and improvement. This has become the result of the use of hybrid production and biotechnology
These agriculturally developed nations not only increased their production and quality but also tide the other countries’ agriculture for their input needs(for seed). Such as other nation’s producers are strictly tide to import hybrid seeds as a result of demand for larger quantities. • Some of these recent developments however have not been welcomed by some people such as some biotechnological developments. • GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) has been one of the most important topics of discussions of their advantages and disadvantages. And even more, a monopoly has been created. Experts have not been completely agree on if it is healthy for human health. • Although there have been all these developments, there are many EXISTING AND UPCOMING PROBLEMS of agriculture;
The growth of population has been gorgeous ,on the other hand the production growth has not been catch up with population growth. This cause famine hunger, starvation and as result malnutrition. The technological development ,parallel to population growth means climatical changes ,shortage of water supply , difficulties to food access . As a result of mentioned affects above agricultural sustainability has become upmost important while malnutrition and obesity is becoming a fatal problem of the societies
WATER • With two thirds of the earth's surface covered by water and the human body consisting of 75 percent of it, it is evidently clear that water is one of the prime elements responsible for life on earth. Water circulates through the land just as it does through the human body, transporting, dissolving, replenishing nutrients and organic matter, while carrying away waste material. • Source of life • Basic need for all living creatures • Impossible to live without • Life without water could wipe out plants, kill animals • Plants will not be able to produce food • Plants won’t be able to produce oxygen which will affect humans • Death of animals can be another result • Lack of water could expand dirtiness and that causes diseases, affect human health • “Living without water is unimaginable!”
Achieving water, energy and food security for all is one of the greatest challenges that humankind is facing. Already today, nearly one billion people lack access to safe drinking water, one billion people suffer from hunger and 2.5 billion people do not have access to modern forms of energy. These challenges will intensify in the future.
WHAT CAN WE DO AS AROUND THE WORLD? • TEACH PEOPLE ESPECIALLY IN RURAL ! • To protect the nature specially from technological maluses and save the natural resources • Educate the people for agricultural developments and optimize production and at the same time save the natural resources • At the same time educate women specially in the rural areas about how should the nutrition be well balanced. Since the women have play the main role in the family , • Teach and motivate women to prepare homemade foods rather than ready made and fast food to avoid the obesity. • Teach women and school children to be conscious about hygiene and label reading while shopping • How to cook the food healthy and properly
To plug off electronics when they are not used since they emit radiation and CO2 which are very unhealthy for our health and go on consumption of electricity. • Not to renew electronics if it is not needed to lessen the electronic waste which is bad for the environment and ecology. • The tap that spills one drop of water per second causes the loss of 6 tons in a year. So if the tap is open for 2 seconds while washing your faces, tooth brushing means 20 liters of water in a day. If you are 5 in the family that means 100 liters of water. Cleaning your car with a bucket of water means 20 liters contrary to 300m liters using a hose. • To water the gardens early morning and late evening in which there is less evaporation. • Wash fruits and vegetables in a small pot and water your plants with used water.
Prefer to use domestic goods instead of exported ones since they have been transported by plane, ship and lorries and spends more fuel that causes more CO2 into the atmosphere. • To learn your carbon footprint in which you take part for the Global warming by calculating how much CO2 is spread because of your activities. • To save forests;1 ton of wastepaper = 17 trees • To save petroleum ;Recycling 1 ton of glass objects =100 liters of petroleum. • To provide savings energy by isolating buildings,water,sound. • To use energy saving bulbs which means less CO2 and %50-70 electricity saving. • To use light colored furniture in your house for more reflection of the daylight. • To use “A” Class electrical appliances to save %40-50 electricity. • To use pressure cooker which means less natural gas and saves energy and to keep the vitamins in. • Not to do prewashing when you use dishwasher. • Your hair dryer spreads more radiation than you guess, so make it work low levels ,thus you both save your hair as well as %10-15 energy.
Wood and wooden things are also renewable. Small pieces are mixed with home wastes, mixed decayed and made the best fertilizer. • Industrial grease is also renewable; 1 liter grease =pollutes 1 million liters of water and damages the creatures. • Oils and margarines which were previously used are also renewable and they mustn’t be poured out to sink, ground or the drain line. 1 liter oil pollutes 1 million liter of water. • Used car tires are renewable and sent to cement plant for saving and burning energy. And it is also sent to recycling factories as a raw material of flooring after granule . • Textile wastes and old clothes are all collected for poor people as a first aid in disasters. And they are also one of the best raw material for the new production. • To make fertilizer for your garden and plant by mixing food wastes and plant, tree wastes, but be sure that there isn’t any material like glass, metal and plastic in.
Bread is the basic food for all the people in our World, but unfortunately most of the bread is not consumed by people and thrown away . In Turkey, in order to prevent the wastages, The municipalities began to collect the stale bread at specific corners and sent to animal shelters. • Medical wastes, pills and tablets should be sent to Pharmacies and local municipalities.
To plant tress for the climate and water • To cycle and prefer public transport instead of private vehicles. • To give the importance and preference on using renewable energy such as solar, wind power and thermal instead of fossil fuel ( coal,petrolium and natural gas). • Not to pollute the environment. • Prefer to use recycling things to non returnable. • To collect used batteries and chemicals separately in special containers. • Plastics are washed and reused for the production of packages. • 1 ton of plastic waste = %95 energy saving = 14000 kwh energy = %90 water economy. • Iron & metal things,aliminium,copper,zinc,lead,bottle caps are also renewable. • Electronic appliances wastes and raw materials such as gold,copper,silver,zinc,etc. obtained from them causes to spend less natural resources and save energy for our • HAPPIER FUTURE!...
OUR AIM IS TO ACHIEVE # 0 # WASTE AND FOR HAPPIER FUTURES
