Training Opportunities for Buildings • Child Trauma Toolkit for Educators—presented by Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition • Overview of Traumatic Stress Children—1 hour overview that can be completed at a principals meeting, schools can tailor a program to fit the needs of their students—presented by Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition • Youth Mental Health First Aid—presented by CHADS, Great Circle, DMH, KUTO • Conversations Presentations (topics include diversity, trauma, depression and others)—presented by CHADS

Safety & Security Measures • Preparing for a Safe School Day, prior to August 13, 2015 • Emergency Building Plans • Review and update your building level Emergency Plan! • Brief all staff both Certified and non-Certified • Spend extra time as needed with new staff, especially those with assigned duties in your plan, including but not limited to: • New Principals • Security Officers • Custodians • Nurses

Safety & Security Measures • Ask Questions • What useful, special training does your staff possess? • Did you know your Security Officers have training in: • Moving through crowds • Defense against sharp weapons • How, as a last resort, to disarm a person with a firearm • No one should be assigned a task, in the plan unless they are: • aware of what the task is, and • they are willing and capable of performing the specified duties required • Incorporate the new “Civil Unrest” annex into your existing plan • Ensure staff has been briefed on the new plan index • Concentrate on your plans “Shelter in Place”, “Lockdown” and “Intruder” protocols

Safety & Security Measures • Intelligence • District Administrator receive weekly updates on any know protest activities from: Federal, Sate and Local Law Enforcement Officials • Day of Peaceful Remembrance • Law Enforcement reach out to the parents of Michael Brown to offer an escort • Law Enforcement have altered there tactics for staging • At this time, there is no plan to have Officers on overtime and staged for a protest • Officers will be on call, and if required, stage out of site at protest • Social Media • District Administrators will monitor accessible social media • District Administrators will brief the Superintendent and other Administrators, as required

Safety & Security Measures • Security • Security Officers have been very active in obtaining special training relating to: • Civil Unrest • Diversity • Recognizing possible student unrest • Department of Justice • Nationally recognized School Safety Officer training through NASARO & MOCES • 24-hour course dealing with Emergency Plans and best practices for operating as an SSO (August 5, 6, 7) • 8-hour Youth Mental Health First Aid

Safety & Security Measures • Remember • Be Adaptable • Be Alert for changes in student behavior • Be Aware of your surroundings • Be Prepared • Don’t be afraid to ask for help • In the Future • District will be increasing video surveillance • Hardening entry is at the elementary level • Security Officers will be completing C.R.O.S.S. training
