Payers (Insurers) • Industry dominated by several big firms • Humana • Aetna • United • Wellpoint • Two types of markets • Government/ Managed Markets (Medicaid, Medicare, DOD) • Commercial (plans provided through your employer or self) • Recruit for a variety of positions, usually into rotational programs

  6. Providers • Hospitals and Physician Groups • Traditionally do not recruit on-grounds… • CDC has contacts at several hospitals if you are very interested • Big “MBA” issues • Provider alignment: should MDs be employed by hospital? (traditionally not but changing) • Consolidation: rampant in industry, much M&A deal negotiation

Consulting & Other • General Management – All big GM Consulting firms have a health care practice. • McKinsey – Strong, plays in all 3 areas of HC, cannot specialize early • BCG – Provider/ Focus, cannot specialize early • Bain – ??, plays in ?? HC, cannot specialize early • Booz • Deloitte – Strong, plays in all 3 areas of HC, can specialize early • Specialty Consulting • ZS Associates • Campbell Alliance • ECG • Navigant • PRTM • I-Banking – You have got to want Banking more than HC

  10. What are they looking for? • Experience is great but not necessary • Interest is key – Why health care? Why that company? • Understanding of their business and challenges they are facing • Elections, Direct to Consumer, IP Control/ Counterfeits, etc.
