Technology for School Administrative Support Goal from 2008-2011 Tech Plan: Integrate district-wide database systems for data flow and single login for staff, students and parents • Student Data Committee – reduce duplicate entry • SAP Steering Committee – ensures integrity of data and business processes • Migration to single login for most district applications • SharePoint for sharing documents

Technology for School Administrative Support Goal from 2008-2011 Tech Plan: Provide appropriate and adequate support for district-wide and building level hardware and software systems • Cycle of replacement for staff computers • Ehelpdesk for all staff and phone support for SAP/ESS • Remote access/VPN • 35 building techs • Copier/printing upgrade and consolidation with Multi-Function Devices for scanning to email

Technology Professional Development Goal from 2008-2011 Tech Plan: Every staff member will have on-demand, just-in-time staff development • Atomic Learning available 24/7 • Online PD with podcasts, webinars, virtual trainings and video streaming • Professional Development Moodle • On-site staff development technology training, user groups, and support

Technology Professional Development Goal from 2008-2011 Tech Plan: There will be higher expectations of staff around daily use of technology • All staff use email, ESS Portal, web gradebook, teachers have classroom web sites • Staff training for Web 2.0, Google Docs • Required training for classroom technology: interactive whiteboards, document cameras, data projectors, student response systems

Technology Professional Development Goal from 2008-2011 Tech Plan: A centralized, web-based storehouse of information, academic best practices, tools and resources to support MPS staff in doing their jobs more efficiently and effectively • 15 trained facilitators for online PD courses • 2 online PD courses for administrators (Google and Web 2.0) • 11 courses offered, 7 new (3 MPS designed) • Tech Integration website with video exemplars • Data analysis decision making; Principals dashboards

Technology Professional Development Goal from 2008-2011 Tech Plan: A comprehensive Professional Development Management System to track and report on professional development activities for staff members • eCompass that includes PDP plans as well as course offerings • Atomic Learning – assign and track viewing of tutorials by staff

Increase/Improve Technology Access Goal from 2008-2011 Tech Plan: Continue to develop and maintain a strong infrastructure for staff and students • Fast Internet at all sites - continually upgrade Wide Area Network with eRate Funding • Business Intelligence (BI) with Business Objects reporting for data driven decision making • Staff can use single sign-on to login at any site • Robust wireless access at all sites with guest access

Increase/Improve Technology Access Goal from 2008-2011 Tech Plan: Facilitate online relationships for/with staff, students and parents that promote learning and community • Redesign main district and department web pages • Separated public and staff-only Intranet Nov 2010 • Teacher classroom webpages and moodle, email and parent portal • Free Wifi Civic Garden has links to: MPS website, Student Moodle, Parent portal and online resources

Technology Integration Goal from 2008-2011 Tech Plan: Technology is integrated into curriculum, instruction, and assessment to improve student achievement: Assure universal access to technology tools for students and staff • 100% of classrooms have data projectors and document cameras (2,100 classrooms) • 78% have classroom audio (1,664 classrooms) • 54% have interactive whiteboards (1,134 classrooms) • 38% have student response systems (800)

Technology Integration Goal from 2008-2011 Tech Plan: Implement technology standards for students, teachers, and administrators • Minnesota Educational Media Organization (MEMO) standards for students and curriculum based on national standards • National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) for students, principals, teachers • 8th grade Minnesota state technology literacy standards aligned to NETS

  19. Technology Integration Goal from 2008-2011 Tech Plan: Develop lesson and unit resources that are stored digitally • C&I and IT partner to implement Atlas Rubicon Curriculum Mapping and Unit/Lesson Content • Distributed district curriculum resources for use on Interactive Whiteboards

  20. Technology as a Tool for Parental Involvement Goal from 2008-2011 Tech Plan: Provide district wide communication to parents/community • Parent Portal • School Web Pages • School email listserv • School Messenger automatic phone-calling

Technology as a Tool for Parental Involvement Goal from 2008-2011 Tech Plan: Increase home technology access for students • MPS re-images older computers to donate to students of poverty for home use as allowed by legislation • ELL Access- Increase use of translations • Communications, Student Placement and ELL has translators available on staff to work on web page translations as well as forms used with parents/community

Online Learning Goal from 2008-2011 Tech Plan: Increase the development and diversification of online course offerings • Health and PE that is done online/hybrid in the HS AVID programs as they are programmed to be done that way. • ALL HS ALC credit recovery uses online courses in a  hybrid model. • Summer school has used a similar model where we have capacity to do so. • Since June of 2009 enrolment is over 10,000 between, online, ALC, and Summer school. (Avid is not tracked)

  23. Online Learning MPS Online Learning is a part of the Minneapolis Public Schools. We provide a full scope of course offerings which include: • English 9-12, MCA Reading and Writing Test Prep • Math: Algebra I & II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus and MCA-Test Prep • Science: Environmental Science, Biology, Physical Science, Physics & Chem • Social Studies: Geography, World History, U.S. History, U.S. Govt. & Econ. • World Languages: Spanish I and II • Electives: Digital Art, Modern Art, Digital Photography, Radio Broadcasting & Creative Writing These classes are available for all students, including full time, part time, home schooled, and credit make up students, students within the Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS), as well as out of district students within Minnesota.
