ABOUT ME • Goals for this internship included: • Becoming more culturally competent • Experiencing life as a local in another culture • Finding new ways besides words to communicate • Learning more about the special needs population in another country • Personal growth Jenna Franklin Senior Nursing major, class of 2012 First adventure abroad

  3. My Internship at Sunce I was able to take a week long trip to Montenegro with Sunce!! • Work closely with persons (mainly adults) with disabilities

  4. Eco Center at Blagaj • Care for animals at a center focused on environmental sustainability • Create website • Welcome visitors Work was never dull!!

  5. Very hospitable! 50% of the population speaks English I learned basic language phrases from immersion Traditional music is common The Muslim faith is a major religion present along with the Catholic religion and Serbian Orthodox religion

  6. FOOD!! FOOD!! Cevapi! Bosnian Coffee-strong yet delicious Palacinke!

  7. Local Friends Friends from Sunce in Montenegro Our new best friends in Mostar who showed us around every day after work!

  8. Dubrovnik, Croatia! Sarajevo! Travel Montenegro! Split, Croatia! Dubrovnik, Croatia! OH THE PLACES YOU WILL GO!!

  9. Impact now and in future • Awakened passion for travel • Gained more self-knowledge • Inspired to volunteer abroad after graduation • Grateful for my country’s freedom Overlooking Mostar
