Budget Cuts and Economic Forecast Impacting State Colleges: A 2010 Overview

In December 2010, state economic conditions revealed significant revenue shortfalls of $520 million in September and an additional $385 million by November, prompting required across-the-board budget cuts of 6.3% and 4.6%. The SCC faced a total of $2.36 million in cuts for FY 2011, necessitating strategic adjustments including lapsing salaries and shifting expenditures to non-state funding. With projections indicating a $5.7 billion shortfall for 2011-13, further reductions are anticipated, significantly impacting administrative and faculty positions across state colleges.
