What narrative is given to us , and from this what do we expect the rest of the film's narrative will be from the information that we have been given? • Silence – lack of diegetic and non diegetic sound • Fear – wide eyes, close ups of peoples faces • Relationships – family collective, sticks together • Rebellion – kid takes battery after being told he couldn’t

  4. Who is the target audience for this film, how do we know this from the opening scene? • Target audience – 25-50 years of age • Male and female – as family is represented • White as all the actors are Caucasian • Lower/ middle class – lack of expensive products

  5. How is the genre of the film set up in the opening scene? What key conventions have been used? • Silence – no speaking • Fear of sound • Slow paced, building up to feature event • Regular people and a protagonist • Family and relationships

  7. Do you think this is a successful opening scene? • I think that was very effective because it gives you a very clear idea of what the storyline will be and how their world works

  13. Do you think this is a successful opening scene? • I think that this is a successful opening scene because you see the entire feelings and thought process of the soldiers in one continuous shot.

  19. Do you think this is a successful opening scene? • I think that it was a very dramatic opening scene, but it wasn’t very clear of what they are doing or giving much information about the current state.

  25. Do you think this is a successful opening scene? • I think that this is an interesting opening scene, as it isn’t very specific as to what the movie is about, and it shows very little about the thriller part of the movie.

  31. Do you think this is a successful opening scene? • I think that this is a successful opening scene, as it gives small details as to how the movie is going to go without revealing the storyline.

  32. What did the opening scenes all have in common? • They all introduce their characters and give a brief introduction as to the key themes of there storyline

  33. Were there any scenes that were particularly different from the others and if so, why do you think this was? • A simple favor was different as it was opening credits and not an opening scene which I think might have worked better for this type of movie.

  34. In your opinion which is the most successful and why? • I think that interstellar was the most successful because it makes you very intrigued as it gives you a brief explanation of what could happen but it doesn’t reveal what will happen.

  35. In your opinion which is the least successful and why? • I think that a simple favor was the least successful as it didn’t give a clear explanation as to what the film is about.
