Only cuts away from artist occasionally although remains within the same location throughout [Figure A]. Figure A Figure B Few cuts. Most takes are quite long.   5. Age of artist and colour appeal to young audience, however pacing, song type and costume of people will most likely attract an older generation. So target audience must be around 20+. Figure A Colours important; beginning a lot of black and white to bring attention to artist’s face and create a dark, moody atmpshere[Figure C]. Later on most of the scene is colourful. [Fiigure B] Shows it to be a happy, dreamy song. Norah Jones - Sunrise Figure B Figure C Figure C Quite slow editing to match pace of song. Instruments in video [Figure A]. Age of artist, music style and fairly bland colours suggest a target audience of 30+. Figure B A bit of a storyline to song. Something the other videos didn’t really have Figure C Fairly long takes. Age of woman plus clothing, lighting and fairly slow edit suggest a target audience of about 25 - 40 year old females. Type of shots mainly LMSs [Figure B] and CUs [Figure A] of artist lip syncing. Figure B Figure A Instruments heard in song featured in video. Jane Monheit – Cheek to cheek No changes in location. Other shots such as Figure B tend to be disconnected montage editing. Holly Cole Trio – Calling you Figure B Video includes artist performing apparently live in a room with others playing instruments. Slow pace, to match music, made so by long durations of take. Conclusion: conventions observed • Pacing of music matches video • Focus mainly on artist lip-syncing to song • Instruments often appear in video • No storyline as such to video • Simple video; in a studio singing • Lighting/colour important to set mood and draw attention and target an age group • Few changes of location within video • Lots of MSs and CUs • Target audience for Jazz, even modern Jazz seems to be 21+ (Average of minimum T.A for these videos).
