  1. Communications Committee October 31st 2009

  2. Promotional Literature: On very short notice I produced with Bill Moses and Cisneros a well-designed information sheet on the Curie award and a new flyer for this meeting. In the New Year Bill, Cisneros and I will produce a tri-fold on NPSS-related awards. Are there any other topics? Volunteering? Local activities? The benefits of conferences being part of NPSS? • Booth: Discovering at the last minute before shipping to Orlando that the table cloth somehow did not make it back to our office from Quebec City a new one was designed by Cisneros and we had two produced, one which should have arrived a week ago her in Orlando for this meeting.

  3. Distribution: This year we, that is I and Scott Fisher, an employee of Vista Control Systems, have arranged and made 11 shipments to various conferences. • Web Site: The new web site is now up although some finishing touches have yet to be done. All old-format TC sites will be converted, how about custom sites? • Slide Templates: Please remember to consider the slide template for your presentations where appropriate and switch to the non-125-anniversary version next year. • Old Photographs: I have received from Allen Friensehner some photographs in negative form and also a CD of mostly NSS/MIC pictures from early this centaury but I have not yet had the time to examine these in detail.

  4. Issue with logo’s • One of the design rules with the IEEE master brand is that it is not to be embellished. Unfortunately, in this review I found: • Please know that the IEEE has design rules for the use of the logo – go to www.ieee.org and search on “logo” These rules include space around the logo, size and general position.

  5. Logo Issue • In this case: • Version of the “kite” with letters underneath is old (many years) and no longer approved • Lettering of the IEEE organizational unit is not allowed to be larger that “IEEE” • One can not add elements to the IEEE logo, organizational unit logo has to be separate, and separated by space from the IEEE logo as defined in the design rules.

  6. Membership • We have in August and September broken a 5-year record for membership and for the three months June-September we have maintained a 12-15% year-on-year growth rate. • Graphs follow:

  9. Thank You! • This has been an even more busy year than I expected! • Thank you, thank you for all your help and responsiveness! • The good news is that next year should be easier!
