  4. In short, WHAT is imperialism? It is empire building. When one country controls another country’s government and economics. Calling that land now part of a country’s empire. EXAMPLE: The American colonies were part of the British Empire.

  5. Causes of WWI -Nationalism Pan-Slavism - movement to unify all of the Slavic people

  6. Causes of WWI -Nationalism Pan-Germanism - movement to unify the people of all German speaking countries Germanic Countries Austria* Belgium Denmark Iceland Germany* Liechtenstein* Luxembourg Netherlands Norway Sweden Switzerland* United Kingdom * = German speaking country

  7. In short, WHAT is nationalism? A fierce pride in one’s country. Being patriotic. To the point that you feel that the wants of your country outweighs the needs of the rest of the world. Is all nationalism good? What would be an example of bad nationalism?

  8. Causes of WWI -Militarism As imperialism grew, nationalism grew and people in those lands that had been claimed as a colony grew aggravated and resisted their “parent” country. This caused the “parent” nation to send military to the colony to keep the peace. Also, empires began to feel that Asian and Africa had not been divided fairly and grew jealous of neighboring colonies. “Parent” countries send more military to protect what they felt was theirs.

  11. Causes of WWI -Assassination Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand was killed in Bosnia by a 19 year old Serbian nationalist who believed that Bosnia should belong to Serbia. This is a direct link between nationalism and the murder.
