  1. Sharing ideas for upcoming Harry Potter Book Night LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library System Tallahassee, FL Presenter: Mary Douglas

  2. “Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry” It’s almost Harry Potter Book Night 2019! Eight activities will be offered from 5:30-7:30 on Thursday, 2/7/19 at all library locations in Leon County. Ideas from each Information Professional (IP or Librarian) gave input into activities. Ideas were presented at December’ s monthly meeting; We had excellent ideas that needed very little tweaking! Today, I’ll talk a little about the activities we will offer.

  3. Sorting Hat Most patrons know what house they want to be in. We have a hat with 4 tokens that they can choose from. Stickers are given to show the house they are in.

  4. House Competition When completing an activity, patrons will receive a ball to “vote” for their house. The jars with the most balls wins. Jars were bought at The Dollar Tree. Balls were purchased at Hobby Lobby.

  5. Reading Station Mad Libs were found and suggested word lists have been printed out. We found that reading portions of HP didn’t appeal to most but having them input words to make a funny mad lib might get their attention. Book Marks are given to all who participate

  6. Scavenger Hunt Nine Clues will be scattered throughout the library. A clue is found and entered into the random word spelled out. See Shopping List for clues!

  7. Bingo We bought HP Bingo from Etsy and it has been a hit! For less than $3, we are able to print out and offer as a take away, if they want to take their bingo card home. Some locations use pencils to mark the called out word; others use coins or beans. Winners receive a tattoo!

  8. Gryffindor Decorate with red / gold tablecloths (from Dollar Tree) Activity is a chevron bookmark from paper. We found this on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AbzuPloMtQ

  9. Hufflepuff 5 cat designs may be colored in with colored pencils, cut out, and glued to a 7” yellow paper plate. Then a piece of twine attached to the back will help hang it on the wall. Just like Professor Umbridge!

  10. Raven Claw A Marauder’s Message: written in invisible ink only to be seen with a black light! Secret Message: Heart Harry Potter

  11. Slytherin Wands were created using Kraft paper straws purchased at Publix. Hot glue gave some character to each wand – no wand is like any other! Spray Paint was used: Black, Bronze, and Camoflauge. Patrons will choose (or be chosen by) their wand. Then a chance to practice some spells!
