  4. A key challenge… Uncertainties on timing and severity of climate impacts are large, and we have always engineered communities to be somewhat resilient to change, so there is significant investment risk for adaptive designs

  5. Lessons from experience… • Resilience is not sustainability, but they are linked • We should focus on loss of services, amenities and welfare, not only assets • Coordination adaptive strategies are needed across spatial scales • Adaptation can lead to increased need for mitigation if we are not careful • But by being careful, adaptation can lead to improved mitigation
