You have learned that an author’s purpose is the author’s reason for writing a text. • An author’s perspective is the author’s opinion about a subject. • You can often identify an author’s perspective by thinking about the words the author uses. • The details the authors has included in the text also provides clues.

  3. Evidence Evidence Evidence Author’s Purpose and Perspective Tip: An author can have more than one purpose for writing something. For example, a story may entertain and teach about a topic.

  4. Read the story. Then we will use the evidence from the story to help us fill in the graphic organizer. “It’s a shame that this park is such a mess!” Tricia said. Every time that she and Anita kicked the soccer ball, it hit a piece of trash. “You’re right,” Anita agreed. “We should improve it. Let’s do something. Let’s organize a cleanup day.” Dozens of volunteers participated. The cleanup made the park cleaner and safer for everyone.
