  1. Object/Shape/Figure This advertisement is of 3 men, running towards the ocean with surfboards in one arm. They are obviously on a beach somewhere in Australia. In the distance are the red and yellow lifeguard flags. There are no high-rise buildings in the distance, or any buildings whatsoever, just greenery and sand and blue skies. The large text at the top says ‘Arrived in the search of the ultimate break. Departed having found paradise. The image represents Australian beaches as relaxing, fun, safe and isolated.

  2. Size The people in the photo are quite small in relation to the background. However the photo is taken looking up at the men. This represents the men as powerful.

  3. Setting The image is set on a beach in Australia. The sky is blue, and there are hardly any clouds, this sets the mood for the image, as bright and happy. Also, the fact that they are outside, on the beach, gives the image a masculine feel. There are no buildings in the background, possibly suggesting serenity.

  4. Colours The colours in the advertisement are bright, and summery. This suggests that the atmosphere of the beaches in Australia is happy and relaxed. The colours used can’t really be put into a feminine of masculine category, they are more neutral. The men in the photo have tanned skin, which shows that they spend a lot of time in the sun.
