  3. The Dangling Modifier • A dangling modifier is a sentence in which it is unclear what is being described (or modified). • Example:Hoping to excuse my lateness, the note was written and given to the teacher. • Correction: Hoping to excuse my lateness, I wrote a note to the teacher.

  4. The Misplaced Modifier • A misplaced modifier is a sentence in which the modifier is in the wrong place. • Example:On the way home, Janice found a gold man’s watch. • Correction: On the way home, Janice found a man’s gold watch.

  5. Avoiding Dangling or Misplaced Modifiers Saves Lives • Read the examples below: • I gave food to my kitten and chopped it up. • I gave an olive to my friend that was stabbed with a fork. • Mrs. Jones was proud of her first hunting trip, she was able to shoot many animals as well as her husband.
